October 11, 200817 yr I go to where I get more bang for my money. I can't see paying extra for any reason at all.
October 11, 200817 yr I like to go to our butcher shop for meat...Kroger (that is about the only store we have other than Wal-mart) for other food items....and Sam's for cleaning products. I really miss having stores...we have more eating establishments than we do stores...I guess people in BG do not like to cook. I would love to have a Safe-Way, Albertsons and places like that...When I grew up in Washington State...well, in Memphis as well...I had no problem finding stores. There were a lot to choose from...here, not much at all. That is about the only thing that I really hate about BG!

When I was at WKU back in the early 90s they claimed that BG had the 2nd most number of restaurants per person in the US. Also, are there no Houchens left? I agree with the Safe-Way comment in particular. My parents have one of those literally a block from their house (in Colorado). It just seems like the perfect store.

Yes, there is the Houchens, but, it is not real clean and they don't have much...I also find them more expensive. I don't doubt that we are number one now LOL! I hate it, I really do. I love cooking and I like to make different things and try new things. I have found that in the stores, there are more prepared stuff now than ever before. You still have TV dinners, but, you also have meals that are already made...Do people not cook in BG anymore? LOL!
October 11, 200817 yr I quit eating out except for once a week at Chipotle for lunch. Kroger's stocking drive's me up the wall. I go about mid morning on weekends and they are stocking the store. I've almost tripped over a stupid box in the freezer section. They just throw them anywhere while you are shopping. Today I told the stocker "Excuse me" while I'm pushing a little cart down the main aisle. I guess they don't want to pay night shift wages.
October 11, 200817 yr Good question. I just moved to Charleston SC with my wife this week from Kansas City. There we have HyVee. Cheap Cheap Cheap. Here is Piglgy Wiggly and Wal-Mart. I went to Piggly Wiggly last night and spent $270 on what seemed like normal spending for us at HyVee and it would be well under $200. Looks like we'll go to Wal-Mart and see what it will be there.

Remember walmart will match all print ads that are not waht they call gimmick sales.
October 11, 200817 yr Wal-Mart usually but it seems like when we always buy other things that are on the list at Wal-Mart. Too much food items and other things in Wal-Mart.
October 11, 200817 yr Remember walmart will match all print ads that are not waht they call gimmick sales. So what is a "gimmick" sale?
October 11, 200817 yr I worked for KROGER for 5 years. I am vested with a small pension from them, and still own some Kroger stock, so I buy my groceries from there.
October 11, 200817 yr Don't you guys have ALDI's up there. I remember there being one in Corbin. ALDI is moving in down here and under cutting Wal-Mart prices. They are opening 2 new stores close to my house within the next 30 days.
October 11, 200817 yr 10 for 10 or buy one get one free. Do they actually use the word "gimmick"? If they do that is a farce!! 10 for 10 and bogof is a legitimate sale price. If they consider that a gimimick than that is funny. I guess Walmart ..oh nevermind!!

I made a huge faux pas the first time I went there. I didn't realize you had to bring your own bags or boxes, and I had quite a fun time getting my groceries home.
