I still think you have to have the horses to win and coaches do great jobs but players have to execute so I dont think a Mueller led CovCath squad wins against Highlands. I certainly think it would be closer though.

 

Future coach to respond to you, I get it. A coach's system can play havoc on certain players and their strengths but man they just dont have team speed. You cant transform those kids into faster kids without work and if the program is in place to get there and they are not then what can you do. Now someone did bring up in an earlier DIATRIBE (leatherneck) that if the coach isnt instilling programs to increase team speed and strength then there might be a problem.

 

I think if HHS and CCH traded coaching staffs, with them coaching the first year for both teams, I see CovCath being within 10 points the entire football game. That's just my opinion. Personally, I think Brossart is the poorest football coach in NKY.

The politics in High School Ftbl is embarrassing. Since when does "an influencial Fan" get any say so about a coach's career, if that is the case. Most of these big mouths have never touched the pigskin.

 

I agree sources outside the program itself shouldn't affect anything. That is why I think the opinions of the players are what should count the most. They know better than anyone for obvious reasons, and I know very very few players under Brossart this season or last who are satisfied with the staff and the way things are run. And unsatisfied is the kindest way I can describe it. Now somebody find an argument with that.

I know I was at Ludlow during the 33 game losing streak, and our superintendent had a meeting with all of us returning football players and asked us what we wanted in a coach, and what we thought would help us succeed. They then went out and got a coach that was perfect for out team and well the whole community in Coach Hensley. Then we went on to break the losing streak and also make the playoffs.

 

So I agree with you that the opinion of the players should definitely have some say in it.

My only argument would be that 15, 16, 17 & 18 year old kids don't always know what they think they know. The same can be said about many players' parents, too.

Would a HHS Coach M team, with the same talent that CovCath has get beaten in two games by HHS by scores of 101-0? Or lose to Beechwood by as many points? I won't say he would beat HHS but the score and game would have been a lot closer.

 

 

I really would like a straight answer, because I think that a coach of the quality of Dale and his staff, wouldn't allow that to happen!

 

It isn't about W/L with me, but how you teach and treat the kids. If I could see some improvement from week to week, but........

 

 

Actually I did answer your question previously. The quality of coaching means a lot, a whole lot. But sometimes things like talent, team chemistry, quality of opponents still result in very well coached teams getting blown out and looking poorly. How quickly you forget Highlands lop sided losses in 05 to Colerain, Louisville X and DeSales.

 

Can I or you or anyone else know for certain that Dale, coaching CovCath, would have made the game closer? Nope. We can speculate that he would because he is a proven great coach. But no one can know what would happen if Dale was CovCath's coach.

I can remember Lynn Ray taking an 0 and 4 team, turning them around to go to state. If a scheme doesn't work, or if players need to change positions, you do it to achieve the best with what you have. The difference in the skill and quality of players on this Cov. Cath. team isn't that great that the season can't be turned around. Lynn Ray did an excellent job of utilizing his players and changing systems and schemes until he found what would work best. Dale Mueller does this at Highlands, and, IMO, Coach Brossart needs to work with his team the same way.

Next years starting QB is most likely not Troy Timmerman. It will probably be Brayden Erpenbeck. He has been Quarterbacking the JV squad this year, and has looked extremely impressive. He plays a little bit of linebacker on the varsity level as well. He has great size, about 6'3 210, and good mobility, he had over 100 yards and two scores against Beechwood in the JV game.....on just three carries. He also has a pretty solid arm and seems to be a good leader, he should be starting over Matt Young this year, in my opinion.
