I can see where the negativity has come from on Timmy Knipps game, but I am also willing to give him the benefit of a doubt due to his age. Kids mature

at different ages. The Faulkners and Ferguson matured much earlier than Knipp. I am in the camp that Timmy Knipp can have a huge year and just because of his body type have the most upside in the college game. He could be another Darius Miller type player who also took some flack at times for is level of intensity, but the talent is undeniably there. My predicition is that

Timmy Knipp can be as good as he wants to be and playing with the Faulkners and Ferguson will only help the rate of his growth. If Timmy Knipp plays to his potential this year,

It is not a far stretch to see a possible Elliot County Scott County matchup in the Finals at Rupp.

I got a private message from Timmy's mom yesterday and she was not happy about my comments. They were not meant to be an attack on Mr. Knipp.

 

I don't believe that he is the top player in his class and believe that he is going to have to play the game much harder then what I have seen. The number of games that I watched last year he seemed very uninterested.

 

With that being said he is only a freshman and has a long career ahead of him.

 

For what it's worth I didn't think your comments were offensive just sharing opinions which are shared on the board. Something (especially in the politically correct environment we live in today) always offends someone it seems. I like Timmy, but got frustrated last year by things like him getting two silly fouls in the first 3 minutes and having to sit the rest of the half. He went through some growing pains last year, but has a ton of potential. Like shooter said playing with the Falks and Ferg will only make him better. I really feel his sophomore year will see him make great strides and grow as a player and individual. I am a retired 24 year old army veteran and have a thick skin anyway. I've even learned in my short 10 months on this board to mellow out so to speak and not take things personal and try to respect everyone's opinions. Much like the kids who play the game we should just try to have some fun sharing ideas and opinions. Enough of feely touchy 101.

Amen--Richie Phares is a Top 10 player in the state.

After looking over an extensive list here are my comments (with a little admitted Elliott County bias). Realize the trend is not to list too many players from one team with the exception of Scott County (Phares, Guyn, Jackson, and Euton).

 

Ferguson made 4 of the list on here for Top 10. No problem.

 

Ethan Faulkner only made BG Elite's Top 10, but Ferguson didn't on his list.

Ethan is one of the top 2 or 3 point guards in the state and in my personal opinion the best because of his decision making, tenacity, and experience.

 

Log Mountain Boy listed 33 players for consideration and listed Ferg and Ethan Faulkner, but no Evan Faulkner. Realize there are a lot of good players in the state, but I find it hard to believe that 33 are better than Evan.

 

Timmy Knipp made no mention anywhere on here. Fine, but by the 2010/2011season he will no doubt make plenty of list. Timmy has to be one of the top sophomores in the state along with Zollo, Stenzel, Kimbro, Barksdale, Fant, and Shanklin.

 

Not really putting up a big fight, but Elliott has 4 really good basketball players in 2008/2009.

 

You would be totally right Timmy Knipp is a very solid player. By the end next year when Elliott County puts up a fight in the state tournament and the team falls on his shoulders he will be putting up more shots not that he doesn't shoot but with most of his team being seniors now, he will be the main man and the focal point of the offense next season that to me is why he doesn't get recongized.

I think there's too much talent in Kentucky to really come up with a solid top 10 without offending someone or leaving off a very good player. There is a lot of D1 talent out there whether it be high, mid major, or low.

 

The players that stick out to me most though are the following: (In no particular order or ranking):

Richie Phares ( Scott Co)

Chad Jackson (Scott Co)

CJ Penny (Anderson Co)

Vee Sanford (Lexcath)

 

After those players, I feel a lot are equally very good players but just a bit below the above mentioned. The ones above are the most well rounded players in the state IMO.

Right on! No matter who has transfered in to Scott Co. This is Richie's team, everything will be ran through him. He will be the one to lead them as far as they go.

I agree. Phares is the heart and soul of that team and IMO the best ALL AROUND player on that team.

I totally agree that parent's shouldn't read stuff about their kids on message boards!

Nick Hudson is a player!!!! Very athletic, about 5'10", extremely fast, and can get to the rim. He plays full speed 100% of the time. Has started since he was a freshman, so he is very experienced.

 

Others in Lexington that get no mention, I think simply because they have no one on this board promoting them, are the two senior guards from Bryan Station. IMO, they are one of the best guard combos in the state. Morones and Ashford can flat out play. Yes, you hear a lot about the Scott Co guards Guyan and Jackson, because they have folks talking them up constantly. It will be interesting to see Station and Scott Co match-up this season. Scott Co will have the advantage down low, but I'm not so sure that Bryan Stations guards aren't better than Scott County's.

 

Morones and Ashford from Bryan Station can flat out play!!!!!!!

I also add Tyler Rogers from Dunbar is a consistently improving player....tall with very long arms....plays above the rim, just lacks bulk.
