It amazes me how no one from either team is talking much about this game.

Great win for the Rebels! This bye week could be good for them because the Rebels got alot of stuff to work on.

This must have been a great one. Congrats to Rebels. I'm looking forward to a visit from LexCath in a few weeks.

Sort of passed over was Lane Pumphrey's 47 yard FG. Only 2 yards short of the school record. Lane should be playing at the next level come next year.

And Pumphrey did attempt a 49 yarder to tie the record. It was blocked by a player who hurdled head-on directly over the snapper before the snapper recovered.

Actually the player that blocked the punt was off sides. One of the many missed or bad calls of the night and he did not hurdle the center rather, went to the gap between the center and the guard.

First, Congrats Boyle!!:dancingpa

Yes, glad my kid does not have Lexington Catholic's coach, I thought he was going to get naked on the feild by the end of the game... with no penalties.:D

I agree, there were several missed calls in this game ;)

As for the clock. I agree with PurplePride92... ditto.

GO REBELS!!!!

I hate I forgot to mention that. I have seen a lot of high school football games in my life, but I have never seen a kid make a 47 yard field goal before. I was very impressed not only by his kick, but it looked like it would have been good from 50+ yards. Believe me, everyone I was sitting around was scared to death when LC lined up for the 49 yarder because we all knew he had the ability to make that kick. I am glad that we blocked it, whether we were offsides or not, because that would have been a huge kick had he made it, not to mention a momentum shifter and possibly overtime.

The punter also did a great job. I'd like to know the net yardage of his punts. I remember that 2 punts went for 48 yards according to the p.a. announcer but in reality it seemed like they all at least went 48 yards.

I couldn't tell if we were offsides, the visitor's seating goes from the end zone to the 35 yard line so my vantage point was off. :madman:

First, I am glad my son plays for Coach Letton. He is an excellent football coach who truly cares about the young men entrusted to his leadership. I'm sure many a coach would have displayed an even worse demeanor with the kind of officiating displayed in this game.

Second, the stoppage of the clock was by the officials on the field. The officials also incorrectly ran the clock later in the game, which helped Boyle run out the clock at the end. I haven't seen any complaints about that. The clock operator has no choice but to start or stop the clock as indicated by the officials.

Third, the officiating crew struggled in all aspects of the game including calling of penalties, clock control, and placement of the ball. There was one instance when LC threw an incomplete pass and the ball was marked backwards 2 yards until another official stepped in and correctly marked the ball. The flags that were thrown were very late, making it seem that they were waiting to see the outcome of the play before calling the penalties.

It would have been nice to have seen how this game would have turned out with a competent crew. It probably would still have been a close game, but maybe the loss would have been easier to swallow without the feeling that the officials either had a stake in the outcome or were just plain incompetent.

Probably that Visitor-cooking that is so prevalent these days in high school athletics.

Anyone that was at the ballgame will tell you the game was not well officiated, but calls were messed up on both sides of the ball. The young man from BC was not close to offsides on the field goal. The two calls on the plays that got called back were very blatant and obvious calls that had to be made-they were in the open field where everyone could see them. Even people that know very little about football could see them and recognize what was happening. Boyle County's sideline got a warning and a flag when questioning calls. LC did not get a penalty when the coach falls to his knees screaming at the officials feet, taking off a sweater vest and launching it 10 yards in the air onto the field. Not sure if you saw that, but... Newsflash-should be a flag. And the late personal foul call against LC was an outright dirty play. Nothing else can be said about that. The DT found BC's Left Off. Tackle and cut him behind the play trying to take out his knee deliberately. Whether these calls affected the outcome we can debate about all year, the beauty is we can find out in November if the better team truly won. Which judging by their defensive performance I am pretty sure they did (Once again, we could debate over and over). With all that being said, Coach Letton is a very very good coach and he does a great job with those young men. He runs a good program that is to be very much respected. I look forward to round two between these two good football programs in November. Should be another dandy.

If you look back at my post, I never said the outcome of the game would have changed. I just would have liked to have seen the game officiated well so that the play on the field was the determinant of the outcome. There were some shots from both sides towards the end as evidenced by personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties both ways. Some of this was possibly due to the inconsistent officiating earlier in the game creating frustration.

Second, the stoppage of the clock was by the officials on the field.

No one I was sitting around nor the coaches on the Boyle County sideline screaming and pointing at the clock knew the officials stopped the clock and there wasn't a delay in play as LC went to their huddle and called the next play, nor did the officials signal to start the clock. Twenty to thirty seconds appeared unaccounted for. What was the clock stopped for in the first place? It's over and done and didn't affect the game, but definitely a questionable/debatable moment from the game.

The officials also incorrectly ran the clock later in the game, which helped Boyle run out the clock at the end

If this is true, then maybe it was a makeup call.

Just plain incompetent is more like it. See you in November.
