Instead of "suspending" his campaign, why not let Palin fill-in? Let Palin and Biden do the politicing and McCain/Obama go take care of the political business. The campaign will go on and business in Washington would be addressed. Just say to Palin, "I have to go to Washington, you run the show for a few days". Why doesn't he do this, because he has no confidence in Palin. He is slipping in the polls, now he wants to act like a "savior" and do his "American duty". Desperate people do desperate things and if people fall for this ploy then shame on them. Obama isn't.

Biden's a senator as well, and he should be there side-by-side with Obama and McCain fulfilling those obligations.

We have had a serious economic crisis brewing for a long time. Now that the volcano explodes, the two guys in the running to lead the free world are finally expected to go back to the jobs they were ELECTED to do? Awesome.

Oh, I forgot, Biden needs to go back to Washington also. That leaves Palin to do the campaigning. We all know that won't happen. She can't even talk to the press so how can she campaign by herself. McCain is desperate and only the people wearing blinders will buy into this political manipulation.

Some people are just old for their age. Owing somewhat to circumstances totally beyond his control, John McCain seems to be one of those people.

I'd say McCain's former POW years makes him age at a greater rate.

 

This whole thing has not set well with me. I was not happy with the choice of Palin. It seemed like too much of a political ploy to gain votes from the disillusioned Hillary supporters. Now this...McCain has missed more votes in the Senate this year then anyone...and NOW he wants to step in and do his job? Again...it screams of political ploy. I can't support it.

If this is indeed what Obama called it 'the worst financial crisis our country has faced since the great depression', why would he not want to be there to be part of the solution? He is supposed to be a leader. Leader's lead thru their actions, not their words.

Maybe Obama use to color his hair to hide the gray's but doesn't now to make him look a little older and experienced.

McCain and Obama are also elected officials, being paid with taxpayer dollars while running for president. We have a legitimate crisis here. If they are truly to be leaders in Washington, why not show it now? Don't just talk about it, ... do something to fix it. Actions speak much louder than words.

Here's the problem. As I understand it when Sens. McCain and Obama do get to Washington there is nothing for them to do. They're not on the committee that , as I understand it, does all the work. Sure they can petition other Senators to vote for it but they can do that from Oxford, MS .

 

Today is nothing more than a photo op for Sen. McCain. Nothing of substance will come about by him or Sen. Obama being IN Washington. It also doesn't help his cause when the head of the committee says that he has not heard from Sen. McCain on this overall issue. Yes, he's a Democrat so politics comes into him making the statement but it certainly doesn't change the story.
