Here's the problem. As I understand it when Sens. McCain and Obama do get to Washington there is nothing for them to do. They're not on the committee that , as I understand it, does all the work. Sure they can petition other Senators to vote for it but they can do that from Oxford, MS .

 

Today is nothing more than a photo op for Sen. McCain. Nothing of substance will come about by him or Sen. Obama being IN Washington. It also doesn't help his cause when the head of the committee says that he has not heard from Sen. McCain on this overall issue. Yes, he's a Democrat so politics comes into him making the statement but it certainly doesn't change the story.

 

But one of these guys is going be saddled with this deal when they move into the White House. They better know that it is a deal they can believe in and they think will work. Having them both involved also eliminates the 'plausible deniability' argument they can use if they take office and the deal doesn't work.

No question that the winner has a vested interest. However, you still haven't explained to me how they will be "involved" despite not being on the banking committee. That's my question.

McCain has pretty much said he's not showing up for the debate on Friday night.

 

Folks in Oxford are pretty ticked off about the whole thing, which is understandable.

I don't see why they can't do both go to Washington then head to Oxford for the debate. The debate isn't til evening. If they are still needed in Washington fly back after the debate.

The reason Obama doesn't want to take part is a lot of his buddies are what got this mess started several years ago with Fannie and Freddie.

The more I think about it, the more I think McCain is making the wrong move here. What good will he do by going back to Washington? If he and Barack show up it is not going to make things go any faster. It's going to slow the process down, or not make a difference at all IMO. I think if he wants to give his input he can, but he could also take time out to do the debates as well.

There was a female financial analyst on the Today show this morning and to condense the interview she stated that the bailout that is being proposed will add approximately 10K to every households debt in the country. Hopefully this works out for the greater good of the country, but I would like to know if we get anything in return after the banks and stock market stabilize, like a tax credit or some kind of stock ownership in AIG or the such, probably not.

Do you have to be IN D.C. to discuss this situation? With all the media following these two around, wouldn't it be better for them to stay away so that this thing doesn't turn into a circus?

I'm pretty sure there are multiple ways to "be there" without actually being there.

 

Cell phones, e-mail, Skype, video conferencing, telegraph, or something.
