Yes. This was their senior year.

The 1982 District Championship Overtime game between HHS-Cov-Cath might be the one that was full capacity. They were turning people away for this damdy.

 

I worked that night so that some of the people I worked with who were students at Highlands could attend the game. I believe we listened to it on WHKK, and during the game our regional manager dropped in for a visit. (We were the closest store to the Monmouth Street bars, so we saw a lot of him.) He asked who was playing and which team we were pulling for, then picked CovCath and offered to bet my paycheck against his, winner take all. I was tempted, but couldn't do it. (I had a tuition payment coming up.) He made himself at home and listened to the game with us. Great game on radio. Leslie County had nothing on any Birds/Colonels matchup.

Was that Hardy Treble & Dale McMillan on the call for WHKK? Those guys were great calling the HS games back then.

Assuming Mark Wehry makes it back from California in time today it will be broadcast on the CCH Radio Network.

Ran into Hardy a couple of months ago at the Green Derby and he couldn't say enough great things about you, Sweeperboy and company. Some of his alltime favorite players to watch in High School football. He said you guys knew how to take care of business!!!!

Good article in the paper this morning about the rivalry. While I'm sure Dave Brossart's comment was in jest and just made to prove a point as to the importance placed on beating HHS , I wouldn't put the "we can go 0-9 but beat HHS and everyone's happy" thinking.
