September 17, 200818 yr Other than pitchers, how many current Reds do you think will be in the everyday lineup in 2009? As of right now, I see "maybe" four.
September 17, 200818 yr Votto, Phillips, Encarnacion and Bruce ... assuming, of course, that they're all back next year. The rotation could be back nearly intact with Harang, Volquez, Arroyo and Cueto. A lefty would be a nice addition.
September 17, 200818 yr Dickerson, will get the nod going into spring training. What about Keppinger, will they keep him?
September 17, 200818 yr Dickerson, will get the nod going into spring training. What about Keppinger, will they keep him?Dickerson has had a red-hot month, but he is a short-term stopgap at best ... there is little in his minor league record that pegs him as anything more than a fourth-outfielder type. Keppinger is a utility guy, plain and simple. If either of them are regulars next year, the Reds didn't have as productive an off-season as they would have liked.

While I do not think that Keppinger & Dickerson are the answer, they're far from the problem. I'd like to keep both of them on the roster, and could live with Dickerson playing every day. He's had 100+ at-bats this year in the bigs and is still over .300. He's got speed and some pop, and can play any OF position. I'd also like to see Keppinger on the roster again next year. He's a good hitter & handler of the bat, and a pretty good fielder as well. He'll also play 1st, SS & 3rd. Him & Hairston are two utility guys that we should keep. Freel & Gonzalez (and more importantly, their contracts) need to go...
September 17, 200818 yr Gonzo at short. I don't think they sit his payroll on the bench. How old will Gonzalez be next year? He really hasn't played baseball in a year and a half has he? I think the Reds would be best to just let him go, and have Keppy or Hairston there. I know I really hope the reds keep both Hairston and Keppy.
September 17, 200818 yr I will be honest I have not paid any attention to the Reds for the last month and a half. However I have heard good things about how Dickerson has been playing. So with the current players this is who I would have starting next year and the order. CF- Hairston SS- Keppy RF- Bruce 2nd- Phillips 1st-Votto 3rd- Encarncion LF- Dickerson C- I have no idea Im sure there will be some changes in offseason and might have some different players. However I know I kind of like this bunch. They would be a scrappy bunch of players, who you know will play hard out there, and do the little things.

I agree that Hairston and Keppy would be two very good utility guys. I also agree that Dickerson has a good shot to play everyday. EE, Votto, and Bruce aren't going any where in my opinion. I also believe this Team may set a record for off season trades, it should be interesting.

I think Banana Bob has grown weary of eating contracts. If they can't unload Gonzo they almost have to play him.
September 17, 200818 yr With Jocketty my guess is everyone is tradeable for a price. Except Cueto & Volquez.
