Very true. Or anyone for that matter. This faux pas, while I would bet was unintentional, is certainly also a result of poor preparation. But gaffes and faux pases would have kept Bush out of office, no doubt.

That's about all I could think whenever I was watching the video too. Not a big deal, but a stupid mistake by Biden.

Politicians are asked to speak at local functions all the time and get asked by party officials to publicly recognize some local hero on the spur of the moment. It has nothing to do with being poorly prepared, unless you are talking about the party official who failed to tell Joe "you need to recognize Chuck, he's the one over there in the wheelchair."

 

This is not one I want to hang my hat on.

I'm a McCain supporter. I've also been on both ends of this type of situation. But I think he handled it really well.

I remember an incident quite a few years ago where someone (I think Andy Williams) was introducing Stevie Wonder on a live feed from a remote location. There were some technical problems and at one point Andy Williams (if it was him) said "Can you see us now?" This stuff happens. I thought Senator Biden handled it with great grace. It is a non issue, but if anything it made him look good.

One of the Palin paranoids who frequents this board posted a thread saying that Palin had implied that she had sold the Alaskan state airplane on E-bay, when in fact it had been sold to someone who did not go through E-bay. He said that by saying she put it on E-bay (which she did) she was misleading people by intentionally making them believe she had sold the plane on E-bay.

 

It's was about as preposterous as making an issue of this and that thread went 2 pages.

It was a very funny gaffe but at least this Biden gaffe was simply an honest mistake. I agree that Biden handled the situation very well and I bet that he does not repeat the mistake anytime soon.

I was once at a dinner with a close friend who has been blind since birth and leaned over with a picture and actually said "check this out". People at our table were horrified until he started giving me grief about it. I was still looking for a table to crawl under. It happens.

No big deal. One of my best friends in college and a fraternity brother was blind. He often used the words see and watch when refering to himself. He would say things such as I'm going to watch the IU game etc. He actually "watched" a lot of tv. Really, in a lot of ways once you spent some time around him, you hardly noticed that he was blind. It was quite remarkable how he overcame his handicap actually.

I agree. If anyone should be catching grief over this it shouldn't be Joe B. it should be the person who probably at the last minute asked him to recognize the Senator and neglected to mention he was in a wheelchair.

 

Now, I did see the speech about selling the plane on E-bay, and if it was not true and you know it's not true, well then that's a lie. That's how that works, ya know...if it's not true, it's a lie and calling it "spin" does not make it any less a lie.
