Will Highlands ever get a new stadium?

Featured Replies

I made my first trip ever to Highlands last fall for a playoff game. From a regular guy in central Kentucky, my recommendation is this: DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!:thumb:

I know that Highlands has a great field. I also like the stadium. I just wish that there was more space. I know that sometimes you can't always get what you want. I also agree that their gym is the pits! That gym is so bad that they have to stop basketball games and mop the floor so kids don't slip. I just thought it'd be nice to see if anyone had any outlandish ideas like me. You know, when you sit around with no money, you think of what it would be like to have some and what you could do with it. If I ever came into some money, the first thing I would do is help out the schools.

They need a new scoreboard to go with that nice field turf (just like Beechwoods new one except blue)

That scoreboard was given to the school my sophomore year when we won state in 1992. It has been there since. I think they repainted it a few times but is still in decent shape. I kinda liked it when it was over by the school. Maybe we could get them to put it on top of the cafenasium which is scheduled to be demolished not soon enough. I would like to see the jumbo tron come back. The projection screen just doesn't look the same but it's better than nothing. I will say that atleast they improved the sound system finally!

I guess the number one thing to do before all is find out what happened during the mysterious power surge during the Ryle game and make sure that we have a few extra fuses laying around in case we gotta go over and replace it.

New lighting was installed last year. This was a huge improvement. With the extra power on the lights, they must be turned on two at a time. If you flip the master switch and they all go on at the same time, you run into the problem we had at the Ryle game. Very tuff on the fuses.

Also last year a new entrance archway was installed and last year and this year the endzones were painted.

Love the ideas and the suggestions, but it takes more than just an idea. It takes doers. Every year a few more things get done. A HUGE THANK YOU to all those that are doers.

How do I become a DOER? I don't have any money, but I would be more than happy to donate some time.

The cafenasium!

No, not all kinds. Just more than I have skill at doing anything practical. ;)

No you don't...trust me. ;)

It must be left the way it is. If Highlands was to reconfigure the stadium, i sure hope everybody's eyesight it getting better with age. They would not be able to place stands as close to the playing surface as it is now. There would be no grandfather clause in this case. So unless you like watching the game from about 50 yards away, i say live with the current setup. I would like to see new seating. You would be surprised how much money the current stands would bring in scrap. It would be interesting to see what the offset would be putting new and bigger stands in. I bet it's not as much as everybody's thinks. Or it may be!!!!!!

My previous post was a little over the top with new stands, so i would just be satisfied with someone taking care of cleaning up the garbage on a weekly basis. And i don't mean volunteers either!!!!!

The visitor sidelines and the school across the way are part of the homefield advantage at Highlands. The visitor locker rooms are too small when it is hot out, people walk through your sideline area the whole game, the sound resonates off the building, and then you have the cannon. Why would anyone want to give that up?
