Ashland will keep it closer than some predict IMO. I still say Ironton wins but by less than 2TD's.

However, I'll add this disclaimer: Don't expect to get many favorable calls, spots, or anything else for that matter when travelling across the big creek. I'll be interested in hearing if there's any skewed Buckeye officiating.

You've played there, too? It is amazing what can happen in the Tiger den!

Anyone who's played there knows how ridiculous it is.

Those guys across the river have no soul. If Ironton is up 4 TD's they still give you the short end of the stick on every call.

My particular favorite call is the ever handy and popular "Holding" infraction. You know...the ones where the flag is launched 40 yards from the ball carrier as the Ironton opponent is speeding toward the end zone.

If this sounds like sour grapes, your right. I really don’t want to come across as whining about officiating, because Ironton wins generally due to being a better team...but when things get close, we all have seen those mystery calls before.

Several years ago, I had the pleasure of attending an Ironton vs. Portsmouth game (at Portsmouth). I was sitting amongst the Tiger faithful and it was absolutely hysterical to listen to all the crying about "bad calls"....Portsmouth manhandled the Tigers that night btw.

Apparently it used to be a lot worse that it is now, I know, hard to imagine.

A lot of the old timers have some really funny stories about their experiences across the river.

What happened (I think it was just a few years ago) when the lights at Ironton mysteriously went out ? Anyone remember anything about this story or did I just make it up ?

It happened several years ago, and I believe it was against Beechwood. I'm not 100 % about that, but I know it was a Northern Kentucy team. A transformer blew, and the electric company told them it would be at least 2 hours before they could restore power. I think Beechwood was leading at the time, but I'm not sure about that either.

That seems right. I remember the other team was leading at the time.

The game had to be finished the next day with Ironton winning ?

No, Beechwood went home and was awarded the victory. Ironton was not too happy. Coach Yeagle never scheduled that again. Ironton fans claimed that BHS was scared to stay and finish the game.

You didnt make it up. I was there and it was 2002. The lights simply went out. The game was postponed until the following Saturday...and I wish I could say this had an impact on the game, but it didnt. However, the Cats scored early on Ironton and it was at least a game when the lights went out albeit it was before half time.

That was the year an Ironton player was quoted as saying about the upcoming game "Its only Ashland"...:fight:

Sorry I cant recall details about the Beechwood game...but in 2002, the lights went out during the Ashland contest.

That for the most is a given when you go across the mighty divide, I have seen it much more than once in basketball as well as football.

The Tomcats can't think about that, is something that they can't control. Tomcats......just concentrate on playing football and leaving everything that you have on the field.:thumb:

Sounds like Ashlands the underdog. My wife is from Ashland so I had better go with the Tomcats in an upset 22-20

I believe the Ashland kids are hungry to keep ol' Mo on their side so I will have to support my 2nd favorite program.

Ashland 20

Ironton 16

If I remember correctly, the last time the Tomcats varsity won the state title was 1990. It was also the last time the Tomcats beat Ironton. Not to over look this game, but next week Ashland has Russell, who has a very good rushing team.

O.k. This is Ashland and Ironton game we are talking about. Tomcats will take Russell behind the wood shed in due time. I my self will pick Ashland folks in a close one. Good luck Tomcats we at Ram land are pulling for a victory. :thumb: P.S Russell had better worry about the Game this week. Had a hard time with Boyd Co. I might add.
