Thank you...thank you....and thank you again! Some fans are well.....nm.

As for the game and the long history between Ashland and Ironton, I was thinking about how unlikely it would have been for East Carolina to think they would upset Va Tech and WVU at the beginning of their season. My point is, we all know upsets do happen. As Greybeard pointed out, the Cats need to play hard nosed football and let the chips fall where they will.

Ashland simply needs to play their very best on each snap, and above all, never, never ever give up. Win, lose or draw…I would want Ironton to know they had been in a battle when the final horn sounds.

Painter, you and Greybeard speak words of wisdom for our Tomcats.

Play with every drop of mental toughness and Tomcat team pride and you can always hold your head high.

Its better to give then receive.:thumb:Tomcats hit for 4 quarters Tomcats win.:thumb:

Win,lose or draw.

Ashland "0" Ironton as much as they want. I'll say 49

Ironton by as many as they want. They are a very physical team that doesn't do anything fancy. Every team they play knows what they are going to do and that is run, run, run the football. Full house backfield and I formation. They have done this for over 30 years! It' straight forward but they execute well because they have run these plays since elementary school. It is funny how some feel that Ashland doesn't get a fair shake at Ironton's Tanks Memorial Stadium, but the game alternates each year from Ironton to Ashland. What is the record between the two teams over the last 20 years. I don't think that the officiating has had anything to do with it.

Good point, ref9, and well taken. Was Ashland's last win against Ironton at Tanks or Putman?

By the way, welcome to BGP, rookie!

Thanks, I'm not sure where the game was played but Ashland last beat Ironton in 1990 and the score was 15-10.

I was confient it was 1990 but I couldn't remember where. I truly believe it was at Tanks Memorial.

You make a rather bold and sweeping statement there. Give the young man a chance. Quarterbacks can quickly become scapegoats or heroes depending on circumstances. This season is much too young for anyone to question his leadership ability and you really confuse me on the courage comment. Royalty's experience is growing...let's take a look at things a few games down the road.

Well stated, Painter:thumb:

I think Ironton wins by at least two touchdowns. Royalty doesn't know how to lead a team and he will be wayyyy too scared.

I don't think that Mr. Royalty is a problem at all. Surely not after the first 2 games. Young Royalty's only problem was that he didn't get much from his paternal DNA, all that ability came from his momma!:D

My particular favorite call is the ever handy and popular "Holding" infraction. You know...the ones where the flag is launched 40 yards from the ball carrier as the Ironton opponent is speeding toward the end zone.

If this sounds like sour grapes, your right. I really don’t want to come across as whining about officiating, because Ironton wins generally due to being a better team...but when things get close, we all have seen those mystery calls before.

Several years ago, I had the pleasure of attending an Ironton vs. Portsmouth game (at Portsmouth). I was sitting amongst the Tiger faithful and it was absolutely hysterical to listen to all the crying about "bad calls"....Portsmouth manhandled the Tigers that night btw.

LOL that is kinda the pot calling the kettle black! I have witnessed quite a few more than questionable calls at Putnam also. Sorry, but had to be said.

Couldn’t agree more JFLDAD...There are previous moments lived within that stadium which will stay with me until the day that I die…miraculous game winning drives, break away runs from a perfectly executed play, the pass that didn’t have a prayer which found its way to the outstretched hands of a both defender and receiver alike…and to see that pass hit its mark in an impossible catch…hear that roar of the crowd. You know...times like that JFLDAD. I’m sure there have been plenty, if not more, from HRE Stadium. Were there penalties called during those close encounters which were, how shall I say, “Debatable”? I would have to say certainly so…Ashland has had their fair share of favorable calls but I also am just as certain that in the overall duration of games/seasons…it tends to even out in the end. I’ve experienced both the tears of great happiness down to sorrow. Bad calls for one team are miracles for others.
