September 4, 200818 yr I feel that in order to save a lot of time having to say "no I'm not saying that" that I should post the following: I'm a fan of Palin the person. She seems to be a wonderful person, mother, and wife. We need more Palins. I'm not making a blanket statement that mothers should not work. I'm not using this in any way other than to foster (hopefully) intelligent discussion. Abortion is off-limits in this discussion as its completely irrelevant. So... Is there something special about a mother's love that is different from a father's love? Or do you think that it doesn't matter - both parents give the same exact type of love and have the same effect on the child? IMO the answer is that , yes, there is something unique about it. I can try to do everything that my wife does but there is still that special something that will never emanate from my being. So we have a wonderful mother with a 5 month old child who has (and I'm not comfortable with this term) "special needs." She has a teenage girl. She will soon not only be raising an 18 year old but also her infant child. Mr. Palin is probably a wonderful man, husband, and father. The VP of the USA seems to be a fairly busy job. I doubt its 9 to 5 or 9 to 9. My assumption is that its not only lots of hours but lots of travel sometimes spur of the moment. Realizing full well that ideally both Mom and Dad are home rearing their children but also realizing that there is something special about a mother is it not fair to ask if the children of Sarah Palin are going to be worse off with their mother as VP than they are today?
September 4, 200818 yr Obama has young children. If elected president he would be busier than the vice president and often absent. Noting the absence of fathers is a huge concern for the african american population, will Obama's children suffer if he is elected?

PLEASE LET THE DEMOCRATS ATTACK HER ON MOTHERHOOD. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel.
September 4, 200818 yr PLEASE LET THE DEMOCRATS ATTACK HER ON MOTHERHOOD. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel. Is that what Clyde said? That the Democrats will, or should attack her on mother hood? And are you yelling?
September 4, 200818 yr Is that what Clyde said? That the Democrats will, or should attack her on mother hood? And are you yelling? I am begging that the Dems take the route that she can't be a professional working woman because she needs to stay home and take care of the children.
September 4, 200818 yr I am begging that the Dems take the route that she can't be a professional working woman because she needs to stay home and take care of the children. Okay. I'm just not sure that is the direction Clyde was headed with this thread. Maybe I'm wrong.
September 4, 200818 yr Understood, the mother situation is unique. Carrying the child for 9 months and so forth, there is that special bond. The stereotype/perception of this "cult of domestication" of women has slowly been evolving. Women have slowly been moving up the corporate ladder, etc. Family sizes are decreasing...partly attributed to the women finding their niche in the workplace. Some mothers may find it troubling that she may be choosing a career move such as this. However, I think this would be more of an argument that could gain more traction if it were brought up 50 years ago. I agree, the Dems do not want to bash her on the motherhood deal. Again, as I said in another thread, the Dems erred in going after her before her introductory speech. She blunted it.
September 4, 200818 yr How about Joe Biden? From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Biden "On August 27, 1966 (while in law school) Biden married Neilia Hunter. They had three children, Joseph R. "Beau" Biden III, Robert Hunter, and Naomi Christina (aka Amy). His wife and infant daughter died in a car accident shortly after he was first elected to the Senate in 1972. His two sons, Beau and Hunter, were seriously injured in the accident, but both eventually made full recoveries. Biden was sworn into office from their bedside. Persuaded not to resign in order to care for them, Biden began the practice of commuting an hour and a half each day on the train from his home in the Wilmington suburbs to Washington, D.C., which he continues to do." Was Biden an irresponsible single parent to commute to D.C. an hour and a half each way daily, nearly 100 miles away from his two sons, pursuing his political career? This is another dead end assault on Palin, whose husband and children will reside with her, near her place of work in D.C. If the Dems attack her on this issue, Biden will be a sitting duck with no defense.
September 4, 200818 yr Palin should not be attacked on this issue. I'll have to admit, if my seventeen year old daughter was pregnant I would not have taken rhe job, man or womman, and subjected her to the publicity, but that is a family decision and as Mr. Obama has suggested, should not be part of a campaign.
September 4, 200818 yr After years of femenists demanding equality for women, now suddenly motherhood is so important. These are the same people who decried sexism in the workplace, but defended Bill Clinton. 1 word comes to mind, hypocrits. Edited September 4, 200818 yr by bballfamily spelling
September 4, 200818 yr After years of femenists demanding equality for women, now suddenly motherhood is so important. These are the same people who decried sexism in the workplace, but defended Bill Clinton. 1 word comes to mind, hypocrits. BINGO :thumb: (and yes HB20 I was yelling). And before anyone responds that its the R who are hypocrits because they were the ones saying that mom's shouldn't work, I haven't heard what I consider a mainstream R say anything close to that in years. Perhaps some have, but this R has worked alongside working moms for years and has continually been impressed with their ability to balance career and motherhood. Actually I'm humbled by their committment, drive and energy. Is anyone going to answer 75 Center's question? I thought it was a very fair question.
September 4, 200818 yr Obama has young children. If elected president he would be busier than the vice president and often absent. Noting the absence of fathers is a huge concern for the african american population, will Obama's children suffer if he is elected? He could always just take tons of vacation time, like Bush.
September 4, 200818 yr  Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. You may as well stop rolling your eyes, because it is not going to stop.
