Howard Wolfson was very complimentary of Palin's performance.

 

To be clear he was very complimentary of her speech from the theater/theatrics point of view. At the end he qualified that with saying that she didn't give any specifics and we didn't learn anything new.

Chris Matthews called her a "torpedo aimed directly for Barack and Michelle Obama" and their culture and that she "reminds him nothing of Hillary Clinton."

 

I agree on both counts.

IMO his comments were aimed at the thinking that Palin was going to court the Hillary voters. She obviously did not do that. What besides the fact that she wore a bra did that speech lead you to believe that she has in common with Hillary and/or her voters?

There was a part in there where she tried to appeal to the battleground states (WV, OH, PA, etc.) that Hillary did so well in. She used the same fear of jobs and aimed directly at the wallet like Hillary did.

 

I could be a little off on what Hillary actually said, never paid that much attention to her.

Aside from Chuck Hagel, I cannot think of a worst choice than Graham. It looks like McCain decided to make his pitch to moderates and independents tonight. At least Graham did not get booed.

I wonder if Palin's speech tonight will set a TV ratings record for the convention.

 

 

After days of intense media coverage about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s qualifications, more than 40 million Americans tuned in Wednesday to see for themselves what they thought of her.

 

Last week, Nielsen said 38.4 million people watched Obama speak at a Denver stadium on the six commercial networks, along with BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo — four networks that didn’t cover Palin’s speech. PBS added an estimated 4 million to that total.

 

Nearly 2 million more women were watching Palin than men, Nielsen said.

Viewers were far more interested in Palin than Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden. Biden’s speech to Democrats last week was seen by an estimated 24 million people.

 

The audiences for the Obama and Palin speeches were bigger than the ones this year for the Academy Awards, the finale of “American Idol” or the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing.

It depends on how big of a hurry you are to fall asleep. McCain definitely put the heavy hitters with the good lines on the stage last night. Maybe McCain did not want to follow a strong performance too closely.
