Last night's intruder is one of Obama's top bundlers. She has reportedly raised $100,000 for his campaign. These actions are not the work of a couple of deranged individuals acting independently.

I would seriously say that he wouldn't discourage it. He's probably grinning from ear to ear right now. Of course, he will have a different look tomorrow when asked about it.

I thought it was a pretty good speech.

He spoke of kitchen table issues, and the like.

Yes, there was a POW story, but tonight's story in referencing it showed a lot of humility, and basically how it changed him.

 

How often have you seen a party candidate pretty much attack his own party as he did, in speaking of having lost their way. That was very interesting.

 

Speaking of education being the Civil Rights issue of this century was very strong. I don't think that vouchers are the answer, but if you want to harp on the gaps between social classes, the achievement gaps in education is cavernous.

 

He did fairly well.

 

Because I know you specifically want to know here are my thoughts:

 

I think there are many people like me that had their ears perk up tonight. We heard some of the "old"(no pun intended) John McCain. We heard one who said screw the individual parties - lets do what's right for the country. Trust me, that won't play well with Rush and his followers. He said just today (Thursday) that this election is NOT about making this party bigger. Its a fight for the American cause. He will not be thrilled to hear this talk tonight IMO.

 

Unlike when Sen. McCain has used his capture as a de facto answer to any questions posed, I thought his use of his story tonight was outstanding. Its a remarkable story without hearing him talk about the mental states he went through. Add that in and its very compelling. Extremely. I won't say it speaks to leadership like some but it does speak to character, honor, and love of country. I can't excuse his infidelity (neatly glossed over tonight by Cindy McCain) but no one is perfect. I won't even use his captivity as a way to attempt to justify infidelity. He failed big time. However, one single act, fortunately, will not define his character.

 

I was pleased at first when I thought we were heading down the road to specifics on the economy but, sadly, it didn't happen. Platitudes. What exactly does it mean when he said "Obama wants education to report to unions but I want education to report to the parents?" What?

 

We'll cover some of the pay differential when someone loses a job until they get another one. OK. What job are they moving to and how are you creating it?

 

Corporate Welfare: Was he talking about the 05 energy bill that he is talking about in a new ad? If so, the net effect of the bill was to raise taxes on oil. Yes there were incentives but they were more than offset by new taxes. Sen. McCain voted against the bill that raised taxes.

 

Healthcare: National Healthcare? I'm no expert on Sen. Obama's healthcare plan but I have not heard that the govt will be taking over the system. I've heard that if people don't have an employer option then they can buy a plan from the govt but isn't that better than what they have today?

 

Why would he talk about a do-nothing congress or say that the people that came to Washington let Washington change them when he's one of "them?"

 

How well will it play with those watching? It certainly played OK with me but it could have been better. I'm looking forward to seeing if the "Maverick" of 2000 is back or is this just campaign rhetoric.

 

BTW this was a much much better speech than Gov. Palin gave. There was nothing positive for the country that came out of that speech.

I also liked the Civil Rights of out decade line but the problem is is that its almost the exact same line President Bush used in 2000. They both have the same goals but I don't think many believe we have reached them or are on the way to reaching them.

Probably not - but if any link between these dirty tricks and the Obama campaign emerge, it would have a huge impact on the campaign.

I was going at it from the "Oliver Stone conspiracy" angle.

I truly believe that Sen. McCain was 100% sincere in his words towards Sen. Obama about being Americans and that he's honorable (or whatever adjective he used).

 

I also believe that very few in the audience agreed with him.

There's a big difference between my opinion on what someone like Oliver Stone's thinking/ movie angle is about an assassination of a president in 1963, and clowns attempting to disrupt a presidential candidate's convention speech.

I am no politic follower by any stretch of the imagination, I am from EKY and was raised in a family who pirmarily voted democrat. My parents have been adament that my sister and I always vote for what we feel is best for the country and/or the state we live in.

 

I have posted on ehre before and it is pretty evident where my vote lies in this election based on my personal beliefs. What I saw in McCain's speech last night was the first time in either National Convention, that either the President or VP nomineee did not solely rely on tossing up pointed remarks or catch phrases to validate why they should be the choice. Palin was witty and funny, but her speech had zero significance to me. Biden was the same, very clever, but the constant barrage of attacks and stereotypes got old fast. Obama's speech reminded me of a high school pep rally: it may get you fired up and excited to see something happen, but no tangible strategy of how that was going to happen was ever produced.

 

McCain spoke sincerely, he had the gall to take on the extreme right wingers in his own party, and although he definately dragged his speech on too long, it was very rewarding and endearing. If people continue to imlore him and Bush are the same, they have either become too biased in their ways, or have let the media brainwash them.

I sure hope so...barring a miracle I don't think Barr is going to win.
