So I didn't see a thread about it, but what was everyone's take on the speeches of Thompson and Liberman tonight?

 

I'll share my thoughts a bit later....

I'm getting tired of hearing McCain's POW story. God bless him, but I'm getting tired of it.

When I first heard that Thompson was speaking I thought it was a mistake. Not a dynamic guy. However, it was a good role for him.

 

Why wasn't President Bush actually there?

Screw individual conventions. They should stick everyone in the same building, split attendance directly down the middle and alternate speakers. Oh, and serving alcohol is a must....

I think Thompson is an excellent speaker. On Bush, I imagine it is party of the hurricane stuff. And, I would take any excuse I could to keep such an unpopular President out of the limelight.

I thought the same thing about Thompson originally, however when he got up there I thought he did a great job. He was the perfect pick for his speech, and maybe it's because I get sick to my stomach every time Obama speaks, but I found Thompson's speech every bit as effective.

Thompson got the crowd going. Lieberman's speech may be the most powerful of both conventions, regardless of what he said...

Do the Republicans risk this convention being only a little about Sen. McCain and A LOT about the Governor from Alaska? She sure seems to be story #1, #2, and #3 this week.

Fred Thompson bored me to tears. Lieberman was, eh, alright.

 

Looking around the convention center, there seemed to be a good number of empty seats.

 

I, too, am getting tired of McCain's POW story. I get it, I get it, the guy's a hero, we all thank and love him for that, but I don't need to be reminded by every person who gets up to speak.

 

 

I watched Bush's speech on NBC. Wow, what a joke. They didn't have the split screen and weren't able to feed in the crowd's reaction, so everytime GW paused for applause, it made him look like an idiot. It wasn't until after his speech that the guys at NBC had to say "sorry about that, we weren't able to feed in the crowd's response."

Regarding McCain and the POW: I'm OK with it in this setting. It should be mentioned since all conventions discuss a candidate's personal history.

 

It only becomes a problem when it becomes the de facto answer to anything that he doesn't want to answer.

People talk about being tired of the POW story, but how are you supposed to give a speech about the type of person a guy is without talking about an event that emcompassed 5.5 years of his life?

One thing that does interest me is wondering how many of the people that are standing up for the Palin decision have actually met her.
