August 30, 200818 yr He looked into her eyes....and saw her soul.....He looked into Putin's eyes and saw "KGB." McCain has proven himself to be a pretty good judge of character. Obama cannot make the same claim.

August 30, 200818 yr Until yesterday, I had only heard her speak once, and I think Mac made a great choice. I heard Palin talk at an energy conference in Houston in Feb of this year. She spoke for about 40 minutes without a teleprompter and only briefing glancing at her notes a few times. A fifteen minute internet search on her gives you all the info you need on what kind of person she is. The Dems will look for a thousand things to be critical of her on, and the only thing they will be able to come up with will be her youth. That, and that she knowingly had a Down's baby. That says more about her character to me than anything else.
August 30, 200818 yr I am anti-abortion, not pro-life. Pro-Life to me is worthless any more. Roe V Wade is not going to be overturned. Plain and simple. You are sadly mistaken grasshopper. Read "The 9." It came very, very close to already being overturned once by the Supreme Court. After the initial review of a case, the 5 votes needed to overturn it were there and they left thinking it would be overturned. One of the liberal SC justices met secretly with O'Conner, got her to change her mind and they worked secretly to come up with the wording of the rulling. When they met to have the official vote, they blindsided Rehnquist with this secretive move. O'Conner's vote is now replaced by Alito who had voted in the case mentioned before as an Apellate judge to overturn Roe v. Wade. One different judge appointment in this next term and Roe v. Wade, the stain on this generations' place in history, can be overturned and the right for states to make the decision on abortions will be returned to them.
August 31, 200818 yr She has been a mayor and ran a city , she is now governor of the large state of AK, she can deliver .:thumb:
August 31, 200818 yr She has been a mayor and ran a city , she is now governor of the large state of AK, she can deliver .:thumb: AK is a large state in land mass alone. The population of AK is ~670K. Heck, Chicago has almost 3M. Louisville has almost the same population as the entire state of Alaska! I think that equating being the governor of Alaska to the Vice-Presidency of the US is stretching it.
August 31, 200818 yr I never heard of her until yesterday. Is she related to that guy from Monty Python?
August 31, 200818 yr She has been a mayor and ran a city , she is now governor of the large state of AK, she can deliver .:thumb: She was mayor of a city of around 9,000 people, if I'm not mistaken. That's not saying much .

That's not saying much .Palin fought corruption and when the sitting Repbulican Governor did not back her up, she resigned from a $100.000/yr. job on a commission, ran against Gov. Murkowski and beat him in the Republican primary and then went on to replace him. She then sold the governor's jet on eBay and sent his gourmet chef packing. What did Barack Obama do when he met corrupt politicians in the Chicago Democratic political machine? He accepted their political support and financial support. Let them eat sandwiches Gov. Sarah Palin knows how to cook. And her children are capable of making sandwiches. That said, Palin has told chef Stefani Marnon that the Governor’s Mansion in Juneau won’t be needing a professional cook until the legislative session this coming winter. “Bottom line is, the governor does not need a gourmet chef at the mansion,” said Meghan Stapleton, the governor’s spokeswoman. “From the start, she’s been very uncomfortable with a gourmet chef. It’s a luxury she doesn’t think Alaskans should be paying for.” Governor's jet to be sold on eBay With an eBay account and about $2.5 million, you too can fly in the state jet that cost former Gov. Frank Murkowski so much political pain in his failed re-election campaign. Gov. Sarah Palin announced Tuesday that she plans to sell the Westwind II online to the highest bidder. Murkowski bought the jet over the objections of the Legislature. Before leaving office earlier this month, he regularly used it to travel around the state, sharing it with the Department of Public Safety. While running against Murkowski, Palin promised to "get rid" of the aircraft. If eBay doesn't work, the state will try something else, she said Tuesday. WESTWIND II: The plane became a point of ridicule against ex-Gov. Murkowski
August 31, 200818 yr With the other thread going so many different directions, I decided to open a new thread. So I hear that McCain had only met Palin once before naming her his VP pick. Doesn't that scream gimmick? Geez, I've heard of college internships requiring more interviews than that! I can see the attack ad now: John McCain: Too EASY for America

In researching her rise to governor, it seems that Murkowski was wildly unpopular, and that Ms. Palin won on the premise of "hope and change". Hmmm....where have I heard that before?

Hmmm....where have I heard that before? He was the Republican congressman she beat in the primary right? What about the two-term incumbant Democrat she beat in the general election?
