But many Clinton supporters feel that she got a bum job because she was a woman and if they have a woman to support, that gender discrimination that they think was demonstrated by Obama, his African American supporters and the DNC just may prompt them to vote for McCain/Palin even in spite of philosophical differences. Her ardent supporters didn't support her just because of her policy stances as her's were no different than Obama's. They supported her because she was a woman. I don't think that all of them or even a majority of her supporters will now vote for McCain. But if he can get even 5% of them to do so in a race that is looking very tight, it could make a difference. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Palin was a great choice. She appeals to the strong conservatives, she appeals to the women and her choice reconfirms McCain's image of being a maverick and not going along with the party traditionalists. Her only down side is lack of foreign policy experience (although her lack of Washington experience is actually a positive to some). While some say her lack of foreign policy experience hurts McCain's ability to attack Obama's similar problem, I think it really hurts Obama's ability to attack Palin even more. Just how can a man running for Pres. attack a woman running for VP on a lack of experience argument, when the man has little more experience than the woman? Plus if he does attack her too viciously, it just may drive more undecided women into her camp. Last thing a man wants to do is criticize a woman while in a group of other women. It turns them into a pack of wolves ( I know; I've experienced it:D). Obama and Biden will have to handle this issue with kid gloves.

 

And to make her even stronger in the eyes of many, her son is in the military getting ready to deploy to Iraq. That makes both members of the R ticket with children in the military and I don't think any member of the D ticket has a child in the military. Insignificant, some say. I don't think so. I think it creates the perception that if elected, the R's won't use the military willy nilly because they have some real skin in the game. It also ties in nicely to the patriotism feelings that many Americans have.

 

Joe Biden son is getting ready to be deployed to Iraq, he is also the AG of Delaware, and Obama children are a little to young, however if McCain wins the election, they may get chance to head to Iraq.

Come on, Birdsfan. Palin has been in her Governorship for 20 months, and that in a state with about as many people as Louisville. Apart from that experience, she served in a couple of very small-time elected roles (Mayor of Wasilla? City councilmember of Wasilla?). Someone may prove me wrong, but I don't think Palin has traveled abroad much at all. Her college degree is in journalism. Obama has a law degree from Harvard Law, taught Constitutional Law for many years, has lived and traveled abroad extensively, has been in the U.S. Senate for nearly four years, and has served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for two years. He is currently chair for the Senate's subcommittee on European Affairs. Before the Senate, he served in Illinois state legislature for eight years.

 

By any serious measurement (years, population represented/governed), Obama has substantially more relevant experience than Palin. He has more elected office experience than Abraham Lincoln had when he was inaugurated.

 

And although Palin is the #2 position on the ticket, she would be the backup for a man who would be the oldest President in U.S. history. Do you really think someone who has been the Governor of Alaska for less than 1/2 of one term, has zero foreign policy experience, and no economics or legal background belongs in the White House? The whole thing sounds like a premise for a Reese Witherspoon movie. How can McCain, whose campaign has been saying Obama lacks experience, responsibly nominate someone with even less given his age and prior health problems?

Palin's executive experience blows Obama out of the water! It's not even close. And as I said, given a choice, I'll take a well experienced leader at the top--a ticket with experience in a leadership role--anyday over a ticket with a neophyte who only knows how to read the speeches put in front of him! Honestly, to see the Democratic side try to grasp at this whole "he's so old" thing is just kind of sad. I'd rather they try to prove they had the better candidate. But then, I guess that would be a formidable task.

 

And I do believe Palin has made trips to the Middle East.

Nobody who has facilitated infanticide and supported a local community's right to ban handguns in violation of the Second Amendment can claim the high ground on upholding the US Constitution.
