Palin Comparison? Karl Rove on CBS Had Mocked Obama Considering Kaine for Veep

Featured Replies

"With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years, he's been able but undistinguished," Rove said. Palin has been governor -- of a much, much smaller state -- for less than two years.

Rove also said: "I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America." Palin was formerly mayor of a town that must be ranked about 15,000th biggest in America.

He added, "So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know what? I'm really not, first and foremost, concerned with -- is this person capable of being president of the United States?'"

CBS News summarized Rove's other statements as follows:

"He expects presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama to choose a running mate based on political calculations, not the person's readiness for the job.

"'I think he's going to make an intensely political choice, not a governing choice,' Rove said. 'He's going to view this through the prism of a candidate, not through the prism of president; that is to say, he's going to pick somebody that he thinks will on the margin help him in a state like Indiana or Missouri or Virginia. He's not going to be thinking big and broad about the responsibilities of president.'"

I don't get what your point is?

Me either.

So, in other words, McCain is NOT a Bush clone?

I don't get what your point is?
He's still looking for it. He'll have to get back to ya. ;)

Wow some of you must be a little cranky. I really didn't have a point, I didn't write the article I just thought it was interesting that Rove would say those things...

First of all...........who cares?

You obviously cared enough to open the thread and post .

Palin is the ultimate VP pick. She is a strong social and fiscal conservative (McCain's weakpoints). Her weakness is foreign policy, McCain's strong point. She is a woman (Hilary voters?). She is NRA, Pro-Life, and even has a labor background. She brings EXECUTIVE experience.

She is the token pick. Normally it would be a turnoff for me. However, she is incredibly genuine- which is why I have decided to vote for McCain. Aside from the fact that she is a great choice because of the aforementioned characteristics that strengthen McCain's ticket, she seems like an incredible person and I'd love to have her as my President someday

The point is that Rove would have been critical of an Obama choice of Kaine, when Palin looks to be almost exactly the same type of pick.

It's perfectly acceptable, and within the rules of BGP to post an article.

I find it hard to believe that you guys don't see the point and I find it disingenuous. Karl Rove essentially said that Palin is a terrible pick. HE said she's not acceptable to be one step from the Presidency. HE said that being governor for less than 2 years in what essentially is a decent sized town DOES NOT qualify you to be one step from the Presidency. HE also said that McCain made a "political" choice instead of one that looks out for the country.

Surely that wasn't hard to digest but if it was I'm glad I'm here to help.

Is Karl Rove running for President?

The analysts on Dem leaning channels have stated that Experience didn't matter than O put Biden on the ticket.

So, were they wrong when they said that O's lack of experience didn't matter?
