Covington Catholic/Cardinal Mooney, OH Predictions

Featured Replies

I can't believe this thread has not been started yet! This Saturday, Covington Catholic squares off against Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney. The game will be played in Canton, Ohio as part of the 2008 Herbstreit Classic. Mooney is 0-1 after losing to Mentor (Ohio) 34-20. Mentor is an Ohio Division I (large school) state power, while Mooney is Division IV. CovCath will have its hands full against Mooney, but the Colonels have historically played well against strong Ohio competition. A win by CCH sure would get 2008 going on a very positive note for the Colonels!

I think the Colonels are going to win.

Really, really nice web page about Cardinal Mooney Football.

BTW if you are going to the game in Canton, the nice folk of Cardinal Mooney have invited the CovCath fans to a tailgate party, see the above link for information.....

I'm pulling for the Catholics.......the Kentucky Catholics.

Mooney is already in must win mode after losing last week and will no doubt have more crowd support in this one. With an extra game under Mooney's belt, this will be a very difficult game for the Colonels to win.

From the Youngstown (OH) Vindicator:

Area teams prepare for Herbstreit Challenge

The Mooney-Covington Catholic game features a pair of schools which each boast six state championships. Like Mooney, Covington last won a state title in 2006.

“This is a program that is extremely rich in tradition,” Fecko said. “Covington competes against some of the top schools in the Cincinnati area, so big time football is nothing new to them.”

Mooney opened its season last week with a 34-20 loss at Mentor, while Covington has yet to play.

“I don’t know if having one game under our belt will be an advantage, but it can’t hurt,” Fecko said. “It’s nice to get the opening night jitters out of the way, and sometimes it takes a week to get the communications between players and coaches down pat, but Covington is a very experienced team, so they’ll be more than ready.”

Mooney is making its second appearance in the Herbstreit Challenge. Last year, the Cardinals defeated Gateway (Pa.), 27-6.

So who are some of star's from this Covington team? Is this their new name? We have the "team from Ft Thomas" and now we have the "team from Covington"

I always thought it was the "team from Park Hills"? Anyway Good Luck to the Colonels! Do KY proud!

Covington Catholic 24-20.

I sure hope CCH wins.

I watched Mooney on DVD last night. They are good, but nothing like last year.

While we are on the this topic, every last KY member of BGP should be rooting for the Colonels tonight.

AGREED....but Im bias :D

I'm going with CCH in a close game 17-14.

With the long bus trip, and with Mooney already testing itself against one of the titans in Ohio, it will be tough. I hope CCH plays well and comes away with no injuries.

Cov Cath must control the ball , run behind that big O line. Def. must continue to improve

and not give up the big play , do not turn the ball over. I believe the game will be close

but Cov Cath has a very good shot.

Also watched the Mentor club (who beat Mooney last week) on FSN last night.

Mentor may have been flat but look like a avgerage team and was surprised to hear that

they are a Div 1.
