I'm not really happy with either candidate.

Obama's timing defied conventional wisdom. Obama sacrificed at least two days' worth of Biden's stumping and the Biden announcement would have been the main topic of all of Sunday talking head shows in either case. If Obama is elected, maybe his 3 AM strategy will set a new trend.

News junkies watch the Sunday talk shows but hardly anybody else does. The weekend is not prime time for news and 3 AM is definitely non-prime. Conventional wisdom dictates making good news when it will receive the most coverage - Obama defied conventional wisdom. Maybe it will work for him.

Was watching the talking pundits and they pointed out that Obama's campaign is really trying to control the P-VP. Today was the ONLY time they will together before the convention.

 

They want Saturday's picture of the two together to be the ONLY picture of them together before the convention.

 

They want the focus on the convention instead of the VP process and selection. Only one picture and the media will quit running it and move on.

 

Ironically, all the press leading up to the convention that should be Obama's coronation is about Hillary and not Obama. There is minimal buzz about him and the convention at all.

 

So, either that will

a) lead him to come out as having an unbelievably great convention because there is no expectations of him going into it;

b) or it will serve him no bump in the polls cause Hillary will get all the attention.

 

And then the media spotlight will immediately move OFF of him and onto McCain's VP pick.

 

His pick is key because it needs to be able to steal the spotlight from Obama's convention bump.

 

If Obama has a horrible convention, he might even delay it a day or so to let the media spotlight stay on Obama fumbling at the convention.

I'm not voting for Obama. I'm undecided whether to vote for McCain and reneg on my pledge never to support a member of the Gang of 14. I'm leaning toward caving in rather than writing in Guru for prez.

I'm certainly not voting for Obama...I really think he would be VERY bad for this country.

 

I'm tired of the Republican party pandering to the christian right and one issue voters instead of to true Republicans who want small government(which this certainly is not). John McCain's 180 over the last 8 years was too much for me and I am no longer registered Republican but am now an Independent.

 

Unless I think there is a serious chance that Obama will beat McCain in Kentucky I will be voting for Bob Barr and will probably vote Libertarian for the rest of my life unless either the Republican party gets back to it's roots or I have to vote against someone (i.e. if Obama had any shot in Kentucky).

The talk of timing(3 AM/Thursday/etc) is silliness in the big picture. It gives some mud to sling but will have zero effect and cannot be turned into anything bigger. If you've already decided he's not your guy, it was a stupid move. If you've already decided he's your guy, it was a good move.

I agree. My biggest decision isn't going to be who I vote for, but who I vote against. I have to decide which candidate I detest the least.

A few weeks ago, I saw one of the talking pundits showing some polling data that should Obama having bigger leads in states and then Hillary winning the states or her closing fast.

 

They had a panel there and were talking about pre-voting polls, actual results and exit polls.

 

One of the things thrown out there is that people said they were voting/considering Obama to be politically correct and considering the African-American candidate but when you got to the secrecy of the voting booth, they voted a different way.
