August 18, 200818 yr Maybe I have been too busy following all the Chicago teams, but I was stunned when I got home today and saw that Volquez has won 15 games. I know he has had a great year, but my goodness, he has a chance to win 20. That's just unbelievable.

(5 since you have to include Bakergate)
August 18, 200818 yr Volquez, Cueto, Bruce, and Votto. The silver lining. You are imo correct in naming those four but this Reds team is no where close to competing. JMO

August 20, 200818 yr 5-0 to be exact. Very good pitching performance by Cueto.Yes, an excellent job. Both Cueto and Harden, were outstanding.
August 20, 200818 yr Yes, an excellent job. Both Cueto and Harden, were outstanding. Strike3, What about the bonehead play by Encarnacion in the 5th. How can a player that has played baseball as long as E-5 not even take a look back at the runner on third? If you were manager of the Reds what do you do to cut down on such bonehead plays as this and the base running mistakes this team seems to make on a consistent basis.

Most clubs, down to the HS level will practice fielding/throwing off the move but incorporate the check of the runner, with a quick glance/head turn. The runner did an excellent job, of shadowing E-5 down the line and left, once he released the throw. He just committed to throwing to 1st and forgot about the situation. More of a lack of preparing yourself, prior to the ball being hit. As far as what can be done, these are the kind of plays which happen, to teams struggling. Every player is going to have to increase their effort, both offensively/defensively for the remainder of the season.
August 20, 200818 yr Cueto was pointing to the runner, Bako was pointing to first. E-5 ain't a mensa member, I think we should be happy that the throw didn't end up in the 5th row.

You'll often hear the base called out, by the Pitcher or Catcher and even "check 1", which means to check the runner and then go to first. If Bako said 1st, then E-5 did his job and Bako, must share in the oversight.
