I have heard some grumblings from the Belfry fanbase that the underlying plan for the PCB this year is to only attend the Belfry/Holy Cross game and to not buy any concessions during the game. This all comes in response to the abrupt decision to take the game away from Belfry and move to SV. Not quite sure if I agree with this or not, but it is very hard to say this is not justifiable.

But, I can't say I disagree with trying to make a statement. I can think of many other ways this point could be made in a much, much better way.

I understand both sides but facts are facts, without Belfry and Pikeville there is no Pike Co. Bowl, no reason for one. Who would drive into Pike Co. to play Shelby Valley or East Ridge?

To each his own, I just think it is making a mountain out of a mole hill. I prefer the blue collar "lets just lineup and play" attitude. Our kids will follow our lead and IMO we need to just shrug it off and move on. This is one of those lemonade out of lemons moments where the small inconveniece doesn't warrant a response by Belfry fans of any kind.

Instituting a rotation seems like a better idea than splitting the nights and always leaving someone out. Certainly Belfry and Pikeville have more tradition, but if the other schools have suitable facilities, a rotation plan seems like a good idea.

I personally have stated on here I have no problem doing the PCB the way it used to be with the Pikeville and Belfry game being on Saturday night at Pikeville. What you can't see, and what mainly only people in Pike County are aware of, is the mentality of certain individuals on the Pike BOE and the perceived notion of "Belfry has gotten enough from the past administration" that has ultimately played a role in this decision.

 

Another factor that has angered Belfry fans beyond the "tradition" is what percentage of the revenue comes from Belfry as opposed to the other county schools.

 

I completely echo Tusi's sentiments in regards to how Belfry's team and administration should take this. I also feel two wrongs do not equal a right, and by taking a childish approach to make a point will only reflect poorly on Belfry and really harm the other county schools who have not asked for this to happen. But, I totally disagree that Belfry should "go quietly into the night", this was an unfair and irrational move by the powers to be with superficial intentions that completely mask the true motives behind it. This particular instance is not the end of the world, but this is just one of a series of events that have been geared biased against Belfry with certain individuals in power, that is the part that deserves attention. There are much better strategies to get the Belfry fanbase's point across that are much more mature and rational, those should be pursued and not an action as the one that is rumored.

What ever happened to Billy Ray Joe Bob? He just disappeared? He seemed to have a lot of inside info on the Pike County teams.

Yes, Belfry does have the money to pay for the jerseys, but Community Trust can definitely afford 30 more jerseys. It's all about being fair and equal. Every school gets the same amount of money from the bowl, so why should Belfry have to fork out more money than any other school. We all know who brings in the money to the bowl. If one team recieves all their jerseys, then they should all receive them, don't punish a team for having more players.

What is the financial windfall from the PCB? iIt's common knowledge the proceeds are split.......does anyone know where that figure usually falls? Maybe it's time to consider alternatives to replace the PCB game? It's been a nice run.....and a rewarding relationship. However, if in fact some of the comments that have been posted are true...regarding the anti Belfry sentiment with the current administration.......then I would think a change may be in the offing.

I agree fully. Belfry fans should not protest the decision.

Lots of regional fans will come out to see Holy Cross and Corbin....those teams aren't going to play East Ridge or Shelby Valley. Let Belfry and Pikeville play two other Pike co schools and see how many regional fans are pulled into the gates.

You can't build the field and say "they will come", that only happens in the movies.

All I know is that Holy Cross will be there with a fairly large fan base . Looking forward to the trip down . Very good atmosphere . Not too confident on how we will fair with Belfry though ....

The Pike County Bowl is a good time and it is well ran. When all is said and done, let's all hope it is a positive experience for all involved and we get to see some good football. :thumb:

Maybe they need to invite some high caliber teams such as Highlands, Bell County, Breathitt, Beechwood, Lex Cath, Ashland, ETC. There are a lot of schools who have never played on turf and it is not common for them to play on I know of several schools who have lost their practice fields to tennis courts and are about to lose their middle school fields to being bought out to the core of engineers. So it is a privaledge to play on these fields.
