Corbin fan base is usually large . . . I don't see it to be any different this year. The bowl is organized and well run. I, for one, am looking forward to it. GO HOUNDS!!!!

Maybe they need to invite some high caliber teams such as Highlands, Bell County, Breathitt, Beechwood, Lex Cath, Ashland, ETC. There are a lot of schools who have never played on turf and it is not common for them to play on I know of several schools who have lost their practice fields to tennis courts and are about to lose their middle school fields to being bought out to the core of engineers. So it is a privaledge to play on these fields.

 

Bell, Beechwood, Highlands and Ashland have all played in the Pike Co Bowl. I want to think Breathitt and Lex Cath have too, but I'd have to check records to be sure on that.

What is the financial windfall from the PCB? iIt's common knowledge the proceeds are split.......does anyone know where that figure usually falls? Maybe it's time to consider alternatives to replace the PCB game? It's been a nice run.....and a rewarding relationship. However, if in fact some of the comments that have been posted are true...regarding the anti Belfry sentiment with the current administration.......then I would think a change may be in the offing.

Considering there really isn't any travel to speak of for the local teams, that's a pretty nice check.

One thing is they had Valley and Central playing other schools for a couple years and they got killed every year. I mean no offense to them but neither is on the level to play those teams and draw the big crowd. Valley is getting closer.

But another reason why scheduling is so hard is due to gas and they are so many bowl games now that it seems like everybody plays in a bowl.

Oh well, I guess the best you could hope for is to please some of the people some of the time.

 

Its not easy to get teams to commit to a 2 year deal where they have to play on the road, in Pike County, both years. I don't have any idea who has or hasn't been invited but I'd guess that they get quite a few rejections.

 

The PCB continues to invite and attract top notch competition for Belfry and Pikeville each year. Not just mountain teams, but teams from different areas of the state.

 

BTW, if you have the ear of the powers that be at any of those top notch teams you mentioned, tell them to contact the Pike County Bowl Committee and volunteer to play in the bowl in 2009 and 2010. I'm sure they would be thrilled.

I've heard Pikeville is where the Corbin and Pikeville game is going to be on here. Then a Corbin player told me that it was going to be at Shelby Valley. Anyone know for sure?

The Corbin/Pikeville game is at Pikeville High School. The Belfry/Holy Cross game is at SV.

All I know is that Holy Cross will be there with a fairly large fan base . Looking forward to the trip down . Very good atmosphere . Not too confident on how we will fair with Belfry though ....

I was told that the big noseguard broke his leg and still hasn't recovered, I'm sorry to hear that, he was a big ole boy.

1. The games should be at Belfry & Pikeville. They play real football at both schools, not Pseudofootball that they attempt at the other Pike Co. schools. No big schools from across the state will travel here to play anyone else no matter how much they pay them.

 

2. One night will always be played at Pikeville in the shadow of the big flag at CTB as long as they are sponsoring it.

 

3. The jerseys are a momento, meant to be worn for one game, not a season, then kept by the players as a keepsake.

 

4. Belfry can afford to buy another 30 jerseys so they can stand 80 on the sidelines and play 30 as usual.

 

5. If I were the Belfry fans I would take my candybars and flask in my pocket and not spend a cent at Shelby Valley....LOL

 

6. The game is at Shelby Valley because Virgil Osborne wanted it there. He is on the school board and the Pike Co. Bowl Committe I think. He is also so far up Mr. Wagner's tail he can't breathe right now. And HELLLLLO, it's a board seat election year in the county kids. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how it all works!
