August 24, 200818 yr Carmel, 28-21. newton had cramps pretty bad, but he sucked it up and led his team to the W. I hope it's a sign of things to come. I can't wait to see him in Commonwealth!!!
August 24, 200818 yr Newton is dangerous with his legs also, correct? Not that I saw. He's a big strong kid . He may make some runs occasionally but I don't picture Joker gameplanning around him running the ball.
August 24, 200818 yr Author Not that I saw. He's a big strong kid . He may make some runs occasionally but I don't picture Joker gameplanning around him running the ball. Newton will never be a true "Vince Young" type of QB... but for crying out loud the kid ran for nearly 100 yards with leg cramps and you don't see him as a running threat? UK will use Newton like LSU used Jamarcus Russell,,pass first and run second, with enough strength and mobility to elude the rush and roll the pocket. I agree and disagree with the gameplanning comment. I don't think UK will count on him to run the ball 10+ times a game, but I guarantee you will see Joker utilize at least 4-5 designed runs with him a game.
August 24, 200818 yr Newton is a Daunte Culpepper type. I can roll with the Russel comments but lacking Russel's cannon arm, I think Newton more so fits the mold of Daunte Culpepper.

August 24, 200818 yr :thumb: He reminds me of Shane Boyd. He is a much taller kid than Shane Boyd. I like the Daunte Culpepper comparison. In stature, he reminds me of a young Derrick Ramsey who had a little success under center for the Cats in the late 1970's, although Morgan Newton is a much more polished passer than was Derrick.

He's a thrower , followed by a thrower, then a runner.
August 25, 200818 yr Wow. UK has already named their field "Newton Field" in honor of Morgan. I haven't seen this much hype out of a UK recruit in a while. It's crazy but its a good crazy. Again, like I stated earlier, Kentucky is most certainly in a win-win situation. If Mossakowski doesn't make it on campus due to baseball or whatever the cause may be, then there will be no further QB controversy and we will have a solid QB for the next few years with Newton. If Moss does make it on campus, then you will have two incredibly talented QB's in the stable; one in the mold of Daunte Culpepper (Newton) the other a Brady Quinn type (Moss) that will push each other to be the best they can ultimately resulting in a great situation for Phillips being he will have two great young QB's ready to perform. Unless Hartline blows us away this season, I most certainly think that one of the two will start next year. At this point though at each's point in their respective high school careers, I think Moss is the more mature of the two and makes smarter decisions. He too is a throw first, run last guy, but from the film I have watched of him he really only runs when he has too, and his speed is just as good as Newtons if not better. He also seems to throw a better ball at this point in his career. Newton on the other hand seems to have the better build, and better upside, but seems to be jumpy in the pocket and takes off a lot faster than Moss does when perhaps he can maybe still stay in the pocket and make a throw. It is just such a good situation for Kentucky and I can just hope and pray that both make it on to campus to at least solidify the chances of the University putting a solid QB on the field in the next couple of years. We'll see how it all pans out until this time next year, but as of right now (just with commitment status and an entire college and high school season to go) I just can't see how everyone is already anointing Newton as the man to beat in Lexington. He is a great player, lots of potential, and can't wait to get him on campus, but there is still a year until then and with the things I have mentioned it will be a race to earn that job when the times comes and if the time comes IMO.

August 25, 200818 yr Wow Newton not a running threat. He will probably weigh about 230. He also runs a 4.5 compared to Moss's 4.8. Either way UK will be in good shape with either of these kids. I thought Newton looked very poised in the pocket and made good decisions as a 17yr old HS player. Actually I thought there were times when he should have tucked it and run more often. His speed is very deceptive. He was outrunning players with a severe hamstring cramp.
