If Dickerson were going to be an everyday starter, don't you think he'd have been called up a few years ago? No, not if he wasn't ready. I am not saying he is the next coming, or anything like that. But believe it or not, there is this thing called working hard, and getting better at your craft. That's what he's done this year, he has become a better baseball player, because he keeps working. If you want to start going through minor league rosters and taking bets on how many guys are going to finally "get it together" at age 29, I'll give you extremely generous odds and still have a great time taking your money.
August 18, 200818 yr FWIW, Volquez was under 100 pitches and could have started the 8th today IMO and Dusty sent Stormy out in the 8th. So, at least he didn't "harangue" his starter today. I'm not sure that I buy the "Dusty is a pitcher killer" theory either. However, I'll wait to hold judgement until next season. Great day to be at the park. Nice breeze and the shade went over our row right before the first pitch.

Well, I'm sorry, but all we have is decades of statistical evidence that says the number of guys making their rookie debut at 26 or older who develop into everyday starters, let alone stars, is minuscule. With that in mind, the odds are overwhelmingly against Dickerson. No, I can't predict Dickerson's future, but I can draw on those statistics and feel pretty comfortable with my educated guess.

I think both Jim Schue and Westsider are right about Dickerson. But I guess Reds fans are the only ones whose opinions matter.
