What 3rd basemen would be available in the off season? I can't think of any right off hand that I would be too high on.

AGon should not be part of the equation IMO unless you're looking for a low cost provider. His defense is overrated. I'd first try to find one and if I could not, I'd use either Kepp or Hairston until I did.

 

If you're not going to have Dunn's salary and you have Griff's money, spend it on production. I'd argue that the pitching is closer to being consistent next year than the offense is.

I realize that, but what 3rd baseman do you feel might be on the trade market? I think Billy Hall could be had, but he's pretty much a clone of E-5.

Casey Blake could be a stopgap, or I wonder if the Dodgers' preference for "proven veterans" might mean that Blake DeWitt is available.

Guys ... Jeff Keppinger is not an everyday player, he's a utility guy. He doesn't hit enough to play third and his defense isn't good enough at short. I know everybody loves him because he's a hustling, get-his-uniform-dirty kind of guy, but that's it.

That they could might afford, Reynolds or Blalock.

The Diamondbacks won't trade Reynolds ... he's young and cheap and they like his bat.

 

Blalock could be a low-risk, low-cost option, if he could stay healthy.

Pudge is considered a liability in the clubhouse by some, and he's clearly on the downside of his career. He's not considered a very good handler of pitchers, although his arm is still very good.

 

It sounds as if he'll stay with the Yankees.

 

I know we can't afford what the Yankees can. As far as handling young pitchers, he did a good job with the young guys from Detroit a couple years back.

* I don't see Dusty being anywhere but in the dugout at $3 mil/year.

* Either Votto or E-5 need to be moved to LF.

* Gonzalez is due a bunch of $$$, he's a better glove than Keppinger but a worse bat.

* I think the starting rotation is solid with Harang, Voltron, Cueto and Arroyo.

* A bunch of questions in the pen with Affeldt, Weathers and Lincoln eligible to walk.

I know I'm in the minority but I think AG's range is highly overstated.

The back of his card says .248. Not sure if we can hope for that kind of performance or a long streak of health with Gonzalez.
