Dunn has a lifetime OBP of better than .800 against lefties, and he's over .800 this year ... that isn't anything resembling horrid.

 

I don't think Dunn is a $13M or more player from here on out. He's a guy I think won't age very gracefully, but he's been a quality player over the years.

 

Unfortunately, some baseball fans pay more attention to batting average and strikeouts than they should, and that are the areas where Dunn's reputation takes a beating.

An OBP of .388 and a SLP of .434 isn't bad at all, especially for a lefty vs. lefties.

There is no answer how that can be replaced in the Reds' lineup.

And you'd rather him fly out? He's not paid to hit home runs, he's paid to help the ballclub. In anyway possible. If he's gettin on base at .400 clip and scoring 110 runs, he's DEFINITELY helping this team.

 

Well since the season is only 6 months long. That would mean 24 HR's and 60 RBI, Heck No.

 

He, EVERY SINGLE YEAR, puts up 40, 100, 100 and 100. That's HR, RBI, Runs, and Walks. And an OBP of .385, minimum.

I think you may be the one using fuzzy math 98. First, he's never scored 110 runs in a season and has only broken 100 in 3 out of 6 and it looks like he'll probably fall short this season. He has hit at least 40 HRs in 4 out of 6 seasons and should get there again this year. He doesn't reach 100 RBIs every year he's done it in 3 out of 6 and should get there again barring another month like June. The one that he has been most consistant at is walks which he has reached in 5 out of 6 seasons and should reach this season too. So while he get near those numbers each year he's not a lock. I'm still for the Reds resigning him, they just have to hope that the other players improve enough to take the load off of him because as long as he is the focal point of the offense the Reds will struggle to be a .500 team.

I'll agree. We can all want Dunn to be a .300 hitter but he's not that type of MLB player.

 

His value, is HR's and RBI's.

 

:thumb: Quite some time ago I was ready to shop Dunn, mostly bc of his poor OF play. I have flip flopped (in the spirit of an election year:D). I don't think that the Reds could match his HR numbers or his OBP in a trade for him and I now think that we can live with the poor fielder in left. I could see platooning him with him playing much more vs. RHP. As for the RBI's, someone has to be on base to drive them in.
