I think they have simply come to the same conclusion the Reds have. He's a valuable guy at 10-12 million, but he's not a guy you give up two or three "plus" prospects to rent for two months. He's also not a guy you give 15-20 million and expect him to anchor your team...

Heard on the radio, a GM reportedly said he wouldn't give Dunn more than 2 years at 5 million a year.

I hope the guy followed it up with "because my owner won't let me" or that guy is not a good GM. 2/$10 won't get a solid setup man. He's not dealing in the real world and I'd can his rear end if I was the owner after hearing such crap.

Evidently this may be the consensus view among GMs. I don't know about the 5 mil, but no one thinks he worth what he's getting paid this year.

That's a different story and I don't think we'll actually know until he hits the FA market. No teams want to give up good young prospects for a big-money player so I don't put anything into the lack of trade talk.

I still think the Reds will keep him. However, if they choose not to, I can't imagine a 28 year old 40+/100/100 guy not getting $15M per. He may not fit every team's needs or budget but he fits more than a few.

Its all about the payroll on a small market team. Does 15 mil fit the Reds budget?

That's the $15m question. That's also why I said he's not for everyone because of their budget. But for anyone to say he's only worth $5M per year is simply misinformed and uneducated.

You all have convinced me. I am convinced that Dunn can not be the "best" hitter on the team, but if you can get a few well-rounded guys on the team (a la how Howard as Utley & Rollins), then all the criticism would disappear.

I believe he would agree to something near what I mentioned...

From all that has been out there, he does not seem overly fond of the Reds and this market with how he is treated.

He should be fired pronto.

How much do those guys make? Are the Reds going to have a budget that equals Philly's?

Why not? He's horrid against LHs
Dunn has a lifetime OBP of better than .800 against lefties, and he's over .800 this year ... that isn't anything resembling horrid.

I don't think Dunn is a $13M or more player from here on out. He's a guy I think won't age very gracefully, but he's been a quality player over the years.

Unfortunately, some baseball fans pay more attention to batting average and strikeouts than they should, and that are the areas where Dunn's reputation takes a beating.

^ He still has 5 more years of his prime baseball. He's not even 30.

.800 OBP?

^ Now that is good.  He's at least worth 30 Mil with those kind of numbers.
