1. CCH-If they are older and more experienced than Highlands, then I have to give them the nod. I am also a little biased, I have ties to one of their coaches.

 

2. Highlands-Too tough year in and year out to not be 1 or 2 regardless of experience on the field.

 

3. Bowling Green-More bias, my alma mater has earned the right to be fixture in the top 3 regardless of how much they got shellacked in the last 3 state games until they can get beaten by a team that is not ranked higher than them. We may not beat the Highlands, LexCath's, and Covington Cath's(not many teams do), but we beat everybody else.

 

4. John Hardin-Sounds like they could be a team that beats BG this year.

 

5. Christian County-Way to good traditionally to not be one of the top 5 teams in 5A year in and year out.

1. Highlands- Until someone beats them they have to be #1

2. John Hardin- Know for having great skill position players they have a huge line this year to complement them.

3. CCH- Played a tuff schedule last year which will benefit them this year.

4. Letcher Co.-

5. Dixie- Have enough returning talent to make a run at the state championship.

6. Bowling Green- Need to replace a load of talent lost to graduation, but always seems to be there in the end.

7. Pulaski Co.

8. Christian Co. If healthy this year may make some noise in the west.

9. Woodford Co. Lost focus late last season will need to maintain drive all season.

10. Warren Central Yes, this was a young team last year with many returning starters.

 

Warren Central will not be a top 10 team. If you're looking for another team from the west, Hoptown will have a better team, they return 15 starters off a very disappointing season last year.

How can you have BG in the 6th spot if they are always there at the end?

 

When talking with people through the years, I always hear that BG will not do ANYTHING this year....well, I usually let people rank them where they want to. I don't really pay any attention to the rankings, just like to look at them and give my thoughts on it. BG will struggle a little more this year (I hope I am wrong on this)...but, as always, they have heart. Sometimes that is all it takes! I am proud of BG, as always. It is not my school, however, it is my adopted school. I love the players, parents, fans and coaches...just a great group of people!!! They don't get mad at their children for not winning, however, are very supportive of thier children....the fans are the very same way. Not all schools are like this, so, be very proud of that..

 

Also, there are not many teams that can say they made it to the Big Dance as many times as we have....that is something else to be very proud of.

Good point about Hoptown. They might be the surprise team from the west. And Letcher might be the surprise team from the east.

I have heard Hoptown might have a strong showing this year. I pick Warren Central on what might be, they also return a lot of starters. Hope John Hardin will get to play Hoptown in the playoffs, best of luck.

Don't forget about Johnson Central either now guys, they've proved that they can make deep playoff runs. The Golden Eagles also return one of the better players in 5A, Ian Welch.

I think it is a reach to put Dixie in the top 10 at number 8. Dixie lost all of its offense from last year from the quarterback to the receivers, runningbacks and kicking game.

Connor Brock will be all that Dixie has this year, probably will finish 4th in their Districts just ahead of Scott or Holmes maybe.

As a CCH fan, I'm not sure how any comparison could be made from the 06' team with this team. In fact in terms of returning talent, this team returns less than the 05', and 04' teams which both lost to Highlands.

 

That being said, they still have a chance to be very good. They do have strong line play, and maybe by year's end they will have a chance to make a run in the playoffs.

I'm curious to see how the west shakes out in 5A this year. BG has been so dominant for the past three years, but they have lost a lot of talent to graduation. Owensboro did so well last year, but I don't hear too much talk about them being the best in the west this year. JH sounds like they will do well. I don't get a good sense of how Christian County or Hopkinsville will do in 2008. It should be interesting.

I agree with most of your post but Dixie had a whole lot of talent on the freshman level just a couple years ago so I would guess that they will have a little more than just Conner Brock.

True, but there are just too many unknowns to put them in the top 10 right now IMO.
