The season is toast...I would see what you could get for Fogg. I would think Fogg's last 2 plus his $1M salary would cause someone to take a flyer on him. HB's control seems to be a lot better which limits his chances to have code red innings.

July 22, 200818 yr There has been some talk of a 6 man type rotation to cut down innings on Volquez, Cueto and Harang... Are their innings that high? They seem to never get past 6 innings. I know there is not a complete game this year.

Innings are high for Cueto and Volquez when compared to what they have worked in the past. No need to keep pushing their arms full blast when the Reds are dead in the water...

They are at roughly 6 innings / game. Is that high? What is considered the benchmark now. I know it is a lot lower than days gone by.

It wasn't just him having a bad start, he just looked awful. Now he is pitching like a #3 starter his last few outings. You figure Harang, Voltron, Cueto are a solid 3 in the rotation next year. Now the question is can Bailey continue to pitch and improve like he has, do you keep Arroyo or keep someone like Fogg who is very cheap by comparison.

I would guess that as of today the plan would be to have the 3 you mentioned plus Homer and then use Griffey's money to get a starting pitcher.

When Harang comes back, does Fogg go back to the Pen and you let "the future" continue to pitch every 5th day? Looking forward to seeing what the Reds do, I know someone mentioned a 6 man rotation. If they put Voltron and Cueto on a pitch count around 80-90, would they even finish 5 innings? Even if they give the kids an extra day of rest, it's not going to matter if they have to throw over 100 pitches just to qualify for a win. Maybe a new pitching coach can help solve that problem as well.
July 22, 200818 yr I'm having a problem undersanding the lack of durability of todays pitchers. Most athletes have become bigger, stronger, faster from era to era. It seems that pitchers are not following that trend. Why is that?
