July 22, 200818 yr I thought Fogg was DOA when he started this year. It wasn't just him having a bad start, he just looked awful. Now he is pitching like a #3 starter his last few outings. You figure Harang, Voltron, Cueto are a solid 3 in the rotation next year. Now the question is can Bailey continue to pitch and improve like he has, do you keep Arroyo or keep someone like Fogg who is very cheap by comparison. I thought he pitched well in one start and not well in two and was sent to the pen. He never really got a chance to get it going.
July 22, 200818 yr I'm having a problem undersanding the lack of durability of todays pitchers. Most athletes have become bigger, stronger, faster from era to era. It seems that pitchers are not following that trend. Why is that? Better, more complex breaking balls? For the record I don't know, I'm just throwing that out there... It was the first thing that came to mind when I read the question...

Most of it boils down to teams trying to protect their investment. If contracts weren't guaranteed like in the NFL model, you wouldn't see them protected so much...
