The Cats' Pause high school football preview

Featured Replies

I don't want this thread to turn into a bash the Cats Pause.

Also, there is so much information and so many teams it is difficult to do everyone justice.

With all that said, we are going to be releasing our previews very soon.

This year we are going to release the previews first and then rank every team in every class which should generate some hate e-mail... :D

Then again Ru, we hopefully were all thought the lesson of if you aren't going to do something well, don't do it at all. Unless the Pause is going to do a first class job, they should save the ink.

I hear what you are saying lneck, I just don't want to stand in judgment of the CP.

On a positive note, I am really excited about our 2008 preview, I think it is one of our best ever thanks to a handful of great writers and some insightful insiders.

I am looking forward to seeing the 2008 preview! :thumb:

I can add this....TCP went to an all glossy presentation this year and had to edit quite a few pages out of the publication for cost and other reasons....

The glossy pages were nice. I was very happy with that change.

Fair enough.

And I am really looking forward to the BGP preview. In my mind it is the standard of what a high school football review should be. Maybe CP knows they can't compete with what the Scribe does and is just throwing in the towel. When are you going to start publishing and selling the printed version in stores? I see profit opportunities and a bigger house and new car for Mrs. Ru in the future.:thumb:

That is all based on advertising. If we had someone to sell the ads we would be in business but that kind of talent has been hard to come by.

All in all, this does pose a great opportunity for BGP...there is room for BGP to take up where TCP could not.

I don't think there is any comparison in the Cats Pause Preview and what I've read on here. Best previews are on BGP by far.

The BGP review was awesome. The Cats Pause got everything about South Oldham High wrong. It listed two players about being impact players for them, but one was a senior and graduated and the other one quit to focus on wrestling.

Really fbcoachcdub, that is interesting. Sounds like they messed something else up. From what I saw in the preview, CP used local newspapers on a lot of previews and themselves on the others. Maybe that is what happened at South.

I just recently received my copy of The Cats' Pause football preview in the mail today, and I must say that I was a bit underwelmed with the section on Kentucky high school football.

I have purchased this football preview every year for the past five years or so, and it seems to me that the amount of space devoted to HS football drops each time.

Some thoughts about this:

1. High school football (or more correctly, the coverage of high school football) has become a much bigger deal recently, with big events like the Herbie, MTV coverage of high school football teams, and ESPN national coverage of high school football games. There are many more national high school football rankings services/polls now as well. It just seems to me that in a state as football-crazy as KY, the state's major publication for football (i.e. The Cats' Pause) would cater to this appetite for prep football coverage by dedicating more time/space to the high school football preview portion of this magazine. Heck, this prep preview (as opposed to the part about UK football) has been the reason I have purchased this magazine for the past several years, so I definitely think that there's a "market" for this sort of thing in KY.

2. Perhaps, in addition to the basic coverage of each team for the upcoming season, the magazine can review some things (like the playoffs) from the previous season. Perhaps it can spend some more time on the best player prospects for the upcoming season, and highlight some marqee match-ups for the upcoming season.

Also, and this is more related to UK football instead of prep football, but it deals with The Cats' Pause: I noticed that former HHS player Jordan Nevels was not listed on the roster. Is he no longer on the UK team?

I concur........coverage has shown to be quite inaccurate and limited in the past.

Is the BGP preview out now? If so, where do can you purchase?
