July 11, 200818 yr Never claimed I wouldn't take what the Braves did. But "dynasty" is way overboard... The word dynasty is overused anyway. A qualifier was probably needed. They did have a divisional dynasty, and that may not mean much to a lot of people, and they may not have done well in the postseason, but it's still quite a feat, even in a weak division. The Yankees in the late 90s, that was a dynasty in the general sense of the term.
July 11, 200818 yr I have always like the Braves, even when they horrible. I remember when Dave Justice won the NL ROY, my grandfather looked at me and said, "Things are going to get better" and he was right. It just sucks now that I cannot watch them everyday. I get the Pirates, Reds, White Sox, and Cubs............2 are good and 2 are just plain horrible.............
July 11, 200818 yr I've always liked the Braves right behind the Reds. I grew up listening to the Reds in the backyard while my dad worked in the yard. I watched the Braves on TBS. Murphey, Horner, Chambliss, Hubbard, Benedict, Rameriz, Washington, Nikreo, Herbosky etc. I loved the Braves in the Smolt, Maddux, Glavine, Avery era. That's about as good of a 4 guys as you could bring year in year out. I still love the Braves. I hate that they aren't on more. Speaking of the Braves, I always thought Otis Nixon looked like the old Braves mascot.
July 11, 200818 yr As a Cub fan, if the Cubs won the world series this year, I'd glady take 162 losses next year. And I too agree that if the Cubs made the playoffs 14 years in a row, they'd have to win at least 2 World Series in there

July 11, 200818 yr I was watching the Braves one night and they said Otis was 33.....I was stunned........ That was probably in Dominican Republic years. That equals about 55:lol:
July 11, 200818 yr Andreas Gallaraga..He was a good player for the Braves...I think he ended up having cancer too. Lopez was never a great catcher and was a product of steroids. I loved watching The Crime Dog play, him and David Justice were good players to watch. The Braves were built around pitching in the 90's and hit just enough to win. Also, people can say what they want and whatever but John Rocker was a good pitcher when he was with the Braves..Distraction or not he could straight bring the heat.
July 11, 200818 yr My favorite player of these Braves teams (and in the entire league at the time) was Ron Gant. He was awesome.
July 11, 200818 yr Who won't get in then? "1st ballot"? Greg Maddux - Yes, 1st ballot Tom Glavine - Probably so, although I would argue no. John Smoltz - No Larry Jones - No Edited July 11, 200818 yr by bugatti
July 11, 200818 yr Been a Braves fan my whole life. I first started watching them in 81. The run was a Dynasty! The difference between the Braves and Yankees of the 90's is simple, the Yankees had the dominant closer. The Braves could not get that consistent closer to win multiple titles. I would also account the fact that two of the three stud pitchers were not power pitchers. As much as I loved these guys especially Maddux, it is power pitching that dominates in the post season.
July 11, 200818 yr Ron Gant Terry Pendleton Sid Bream Otis Nixon (sniff sniff:D) Mark Lemke (Mr. October:lol:) Rafael Belliard Damon Berryhill/Greg Olson And, how about this list of dominating closers... Juan Berenguer (Senor Smoke:lol:) Alejandro Pena Mike Stanton/Greg McMichael Mark Wohlers Kerry Ligtenberg John Rocker Chris Reitsma Bob Wickman
