Larry is against legalization because his Bible says its wrong. Why, then, do 2 out of every 3 of you on here say you want it legal? (about the same % as the nationwide poll).I am assuming that most on here believe in God and the Bible, so why do you want to legalize something that , according to Larry, the Bible says is wrong? If Larry is right, doesn't that make most of you hypocrites? If your Bible says its wrong, why do you say make it legal?

I am just trying to be consistent. If the government does not regulate sex between other consenting adults, why should prostitutes be regulated? I am not in favor of prostitution but criminalizing a consensual relationship between two adults does not seem to be a worthwhile expenditure of tax dollars to me.

 

The bottom line is that while I do not want the government policing sex, I also do not want the government exploiting prostitution. Liberals never miss an opportunity to tax and regulate sin. :lol:

Watched an interesting piece on CNN last night on Video Vigilante and one guy's fight against prostitution.

 

He said his videos show the myths of prostitution. Seems he video tapes prostitutes and their johns getting together, calls the police and tapes them in the act. Puts the video clips on his website, johntv.com and youtube. Says the acts are not some innocent act between two adults in privacy somewhere but constantly has clips in parks, in front of children, in neighborhoods, etc, etc.

Public indecency/lewd behavior is a separate issue, IMO, from prostitution.

As for the thread at hand, a few comments:

 

1. I wish that the thread could have been restricted to only Abortion supporters, because from that perspective, I can not think of a reason to keep it illegal, and barely an argument to even regulate it.

 

2. I won't vote because I am undecided. The libertarian part of me tells me legalize it and let the market take care of it. On the other hand, I believe that laws should only exist for the benefit of society, and I don't think that more prostitution would be good for our country, as well as the possibilities of increases in taxes that could be caused by it because widespread sex with prostitutes can only lead to more STI's and higher health care costs. Then again, I realize how the underground market can undermine our GDP, and it could be taxed (then again I don't want the government to have more money).

The problem with prostitution is that AIDS isnt the only thing you can get. Herpes, gonorrhea, HPV, syphyllis, and Hepatitis to mention only a few. Herpes (as we all know from TV) can be spread with no symptom. AIDS and Hepatitis have a long window of time when you can have it and spread it, before you test positive. Some never have any symptoms at all. The more sexually active you are the greater the risk of developing and spreading one or more of these diseases. Simple as that.

 

Yes, women may have the right to do what they want with their bodies, but they do not have the right to give the gift that "keeps on giving." From a health standpoint, I think it should be illegal. Prostitution can potentially affect the entire community, and certainly affect those who have no involvement in prostitution.

 

Yep, I agree that it is a profession that is not going to go away. But to legalize it and make it legit would do more harm to the general public in the long run, IMO.
