I believe Obama is an excellent speaker with a prepared script but mediocre otherwise. Without the script he seems to get lost, constantly search for the right words, and often times repeats himself.

 

As a speaker, Bill Clinton's strengths and weakness were reversed. Bill is excellent off-the-cuff but tends to be long winded with a prepared script.

IMO, the best way to convince yourself not to vote for Obama is not through verbal miscues, but by reading an economics textbook.

I wouldn't vote for Obama in a million years, but do think he's an absolutely outstanding public speaker. You speak as often as he does and you're bound to make an occasional slip of the tongue. His voice inflections, eye contact, demeaner, delivery are all impressive. In fact, it is his very engaging speaking ability that allows him to conceal his flawed ideas in such a convincing manner.

One of Comrade Obama's so called strengths is his ability to communicate but it sure seems to me that unless he is able to read off of a teleprompter he has a bit of trouble.

 

And before HB has the chance, I think McCain has exactly the opposite problem. He can't read a prepared speech well but does better off the cuff.

 

I said something about mccain. He is the other candidate in this race and no one mentioned specifically that discussing him in this thread is off limits.

John McCain has said himself that he doesn't know a lot about economics so what makes you think he will help the economy more than Obama?

Maybe, but I bet most Americans know how many states there are well enough to not have to think about it and even then misspeak after pausing to think for a second as Obama did. While I would say way less than half of Americans know the difference between the Shiites and the Sunnis.

 

We all misspeak, as stated above what would we look like if there was a camera on us 18-20 hours a day. My guess is that we would all say and do things that would embarrass us upon reflection.

 

The election should not be based on these sound bites. That however does not mean that we can't enjoy them and picking at the opposition.

Seriously, a girl that works for me is from Bosnia. She was studying for her citizenship test and asked a coworker to help her. Maja asked the questions, for fun, of the girl who is American born. The girl she was asking would never have passed a citizenship test.

I agree with everything except that it's fun. I think it's annoying and disrespectful to the process of electing officials, personally. It's one of the reasons I hate political ads, and that I hate those e-mails that erroneously spread rumors as facts.

Obama is a good teleprompter reader but not very impressive answering questions that require a good grasp of the issues. McCain is a terrible speech presenter but is pretty good in an interview setting.

 

McCain is smart for challenging Obama early and often to appear in public for various question and answer events - and Obama is smart for ducking the challenges. Obama learned his lesson in the Pennsylvania debate when Hillary made him look so foolish.
