June 6, 200818 yr Mother always called lettuce with bacon grease "wilted lettuce." She used the leaf lettuce as opposed to the head of lettuce. The meal Cville described is my all time fave. (the beach and margarita sounds great too!)

June 12, 200818 yr Wilted lettuce, with bacon and green onions. Served with fried potatoes, brown beans and made from scratch buttermilk cornbread. My mom made that wilted lettuce stuff all the time back in the day. Smelled so awful I wouldn't touch it with a 100-foot pole.
June 13, 200818 yr My mom made that wilted lettuce stuff all the time back in the day. Smelled so awful I wouldn't touch it with a 100-foot pole. You sure missed out on some good vittles. It was one of my favorites growing up and still is today, especially in the Spring when the letttuce and green onions come straight from our garden to the table. I think if you would try it you would like it.
