Would this lady lose her job if she was in any other profession. My argument is if you are going to hold teachers to a higher standard than many other professions, then shouldn't they be compensated or paid more, because society holds them to a higher standard and they can't partake in some of the many activities that everyone else can because you put them on a pedestal. If a teacher wants to go to a bar and have a drink, why should they not be allowed.(IF they are over 21) Who's going to see them if they aren't in the bar themselves?

She was hired as a teacher, a position that is a very RESPECTED position. She is with young children. I don't respect politicians, doctors, lawyers, business personnel and especially teachers dealing with children daily to act that way.

 

 

You saw the way the country reacted to Pres. Clinton when he actually did have relations with that woman. That was his personal business but really it isn't when you hold that job, or a teaching job, or your a doctor or anyone. Your personal life effects more than just your private sector and when people realize that , maybe they will begin to behave.

I don't think she should have been fired, the media made this bigger than it ever should have been. Last time I looked, it wasn't illegal to wear a bikini in the US.

We aren't going to agree here. I am not saying what she did should be illegal, nor should it be, and I really am not that strong in my beliefs. I just think that if I were a school administrator, I wouldn't want my 2nd-grade teacher to be appearing on the Howard Stern show, stripping down to little more than underwear to get some extra dollars.

Does a teacher have to do something illegal to show poor judgment?

 

A school has the responsibility to have someone in each classroom that not only has the ability to teach but also shows good judgment and can be trusted by the parents.

 

This is no different than a teacher dancing on a pole or posing in Playboy. Its not illegal but it immediately disqualifies them from teaching children.

If she had been on the Jay Leno show, or David Letterman and done some sort of bikini contest then no way she would be fired and all the faculty would be laughing about it.
