I believe it will be SP Crow, or SS Gordan Beckham. Some have the High School SS Tim Beckham going #1 overall. He is also from Georgia. Also saw in one of the mocks, that Eastern Kentucky's Christan Friedrich LHP was going #12 overall to Oakland.
June 5, 200818 yr A really nice win and Voltron continues to be amazing with each outing. As someone mentioned above, the pitching has done a pretty good job with this offense, maybe the Reds can pull one out tomorrow and leave with a split.

I think the top candidates are Tim Beckham, Buster Posey, or Pedro Alvarez, but don't count out the likes of Brian Matusz or even Gordon Beckham. It seems pretty consensus that Matusz and Crow are the best pitchers in the draft.
June 5, 200818 yr While you make a good point, I'll agree with AJG on the fact that being a bit wild is why he's having more success than Cueto at this point. He's ahead of the curve on learning how to pitch at this level, and he just needs to be a little more consistent on the corners with some of his stuff... :thumb: Once Cueto realizes that he is nasty enough that he can afford to walk a batter rather than just load up and try to blow one by them right down the middle the Reds could have 2 aces. Volquez doesn't worry about the walks because he's good enough that teams can't beat him on a pitcher's pitch and he'll pitch around someone rather than giving in. Once Cueto learns that he'll be awfully tough too. You have to think that Volquez will rub off on Cueto soon, actually there are already signs of it. Great duo for the future.

Volquez doesn't worry about the walks because he's good enough that teams can't beat him on a pitcher's pitch and he'll pitch around someone rather than giving in. Once Cueto learns that he'll be awfully tough too. You have to think that Volquez will rub off on Cueto soon, actually there are already signs of it. Great duo for the future. I honestly can't remember being so excited about Reds pitching, and I'm kinda old.
June 5, 200818 yr A couple questions that I have thought about recently... At this point in the season, who from the Reds is an All Star? Volquez is the one the consensus, but anyone else? Phillips isn't swinging the bat well enough and 2B in the NL is tough. What about Cordero though? He is in the top 5 in saves and has an ERA just above 2. At this point Lidge and Wagner both have sub 1 ERA's so they would be there, but don't count him out. And... Will we see Daryl Thompson this season? He has had a pretty quick rise through the minors but in AA his ERA was just above 1 and in AAA it hasn't even gotten that high. It would be interesting to see him in the rotation with Volquez and Cueto. It may depend on how tomorrows start goes. Who knows, maybe both of em stick and we have a rotation of guys 24 and younger with nasty stuff to go with Harang. Hmm... And who from the Reds could be named Rookie of the Year? I assume Bruce can, but can Volquez with his appearances prior to this year? What about Votto? Any contenders from other teams?
