I would not go that far. No QB, No TE, No WR all gone. A squeaker against JH in the playoffs and No offense from Owensboro in the semis when BG turned the ball over the first 5 posessions last year.

With that many turnovers how can BG be any worse?

For what ever reason my BGHS friends seem more concerned about playing OHS in the playoffs over JH or Christian County. I know OHS always gives BGHS a tough game even when BGHS may have alot more talent on the field.

Well good thing for BG this year if it comes down to BG and OHS if I am correct the game will be in BG rather than Rash stadium. If anyone saw the freshman game this year Owensboro put a whooping on BG freshman and hopefully that trend can continue until at least my son is gone.

BG is the top dog in the west untill somebody knocks them off. The last team in the west that beat them was Madisonville. Christian County is big and have one of the better RBs in the west. They do give up alot of points however. Hopkinsville who beat Christian in the regular season but lost in a shoot out return most of their starters back on both sides of the ball. Both of these teams should beat Owensbore this season. BG will be a tuff out but will not be as talented as they have the past three years. Don't know much about JH but their program has been very competitive the last couple of years.

Bowling Green will just reload with a new set of players. With a new QB, look for BG to run the football, which will be their obvious strength with the RB's they have back.

 

Their defense will keep them in every tough game. So as long as the offense can scrape together more than a couple scores, they will be back on the carpet...

The west should be very competitive this year. The carpet invite is wide open this year from the west and I look for Owensboro to be a contender with a new look this year. Christian Co. is going to be the team to watch as is BG, I agree until someone beats them but I feel BG's run at the carpet will soon be over as district 1 is going to be the favorite for the next 3 years. All teams are young talented and should put an end to BG going to the pizza box for a few years.

All I know is what I have seen when Owensboro played their JV and Freshman teams. I know that a few years of growth and working out things can change but last year Owensboro beat BG pretty bad in the younger classes. That is what I am going on currently.

 

I know BG is always good always have been but so has Owensboro as well and I would say these 2 teams will always be in the mix every year. I am an Apollo alum as well but have watched Owensboro over the years and they always have talent just like BG. It sure would be nice for it to come down to BG and OHS every year that would mean both teams are going in the right direction.

Predicting varsity outcomes on what happens in freshman games is not a very good barometer. See last years OHS-BG game as evidence. The juniors and seniors on last years OHS team both drilled BG in freshman games. OHS and BG haven't played a JV game in over 10 years.

You'd have to think at some point BG's run is going to end. Teams like Owensboro and especially Hopkinsville don't stay down that long. There was a reason that Bowling Green went 11 years without making it to the finals, and went 8 years without making it to the final four. Bowling Green will year in and year out be a threat to go to the finals, but no matter how good the team, eventually you'll have a down year, even if it's only down in the sense they don't win the region.

Agreed. For years Warren Central has had success against the lower levels of Bowling Green's program, be it middle school, freshman, or JV. And yet the Dragons only have two victories over the Purples since 1993. The lower level is more about getting developed for the upper level, which doesn't always translate to winning games at that level.

While I agree this year will be competitive, I think the next few years look bright for BG. There are only about 8, maybe 9 seniors in the starting lineup this season for offense and defense and a lot of the juniors starting saw a lot of varsity time last year. Add that to a freshmen group of 35 who went undefeated in middle school for 2 years. The freshmen have size, speed and skilled players with a very good QB. I can see a lot of those guys playing varsity next year. We're hoping for another few good runs at a region title (at least).

Bowling Green has been the dominant team in the West in the 5A/3A class recently. Is that going to be the case this year, or will graduation will hurt them? Is it JH's or someone else's year?
