Gotta pull for anybody but BG. Tired of watching them wash up at Papa John's.

Going by their scrimmage against Paducah Tilghman, they look to be improved from last year. Hoptown still doesn't have quite the athletes they had in their run in the late 90s and early part of this decade.

No worries about Christian County's chronic propensity to fold under pressure? I have a hard time ever imagining them winning a regional title given the years I've watched them blow it with the best team.

County has a different coach now. Last coach did miss on several opportunities to go to the finial four with the most talented team.

At least not until they get to Louisville...at which point feel free to pick the other team without any fear!

I feel they were the best team in 2006 for sure. Central may have beaten them in the regular season matchup, but that whole game felt like you were just waiting for Christian County to take over, and they never did. Then they flamed out in the playoffs.

 

Maybe I shouldn't have said years where they were the best team, though I think 2006 was one of those. Should have just stuck with them folding under pressure. They choked in 2005 where they blew a 21 point lead in the 4th against Central in the regional final. With that kind of lead in the 4th quarter, you should never lose. Central scored four times in that quarter, with three TDs, and a field goal to win it. All Christian County had to do was run the ball and yet they had two or three crucial incompletions that stopped the clock. In 2004 they lost to a Central team they had annihilated two weeks earlier. In 2003 they were at least better than Henderson and should have made it back to a regional final against Central to try to avenge their 35-0 defeat by the Dragons earlier in the year.

 

It has just always seemed to me that the Colonels were underachievers. Maybe that's because I got to be present at so many of their failures.

Having seen both teams in both years, I felt like Warren Central was the better team in 2005 and 2006.

 

Before that ... frankly, I don't remember.

I'm still stunned that Owensboro lost to them twice, but you certainly called it. I kept waiting for the ole Christian County choke, and it never came.

Christian County has one of the best coaching staffs in the western part of the state, if not all of the state. A coach that has a championship ring and a former NFL player to go with several people with coaching in the lineage. And Steve Lovelace can get it out of his players when he needs to. It's a nice combo.
