November 23, 201312 yr On this date in 1985, EgyptAir Flight 648 was hijacked by three members of Abu Nidal. One of the terrorists was killed in the hijacking, and the plane was eventually landed in Malta, where there was a brief standoff, followed by a "surprise" raid by Egyptian commandos. In the course of the raid, explosives used to breech the passenger and luggage compartment doors of the plane using explosives, catching the interior of the plane on fire. 58 passengers and 1 of the terrorists were killed by fire/suffocation.
