I just love how the Highlands faithful chime in and insinuate that kids cannot play two or more sports and be successful. That is the problem in Ft. Thomas as we speak. If you play any other sport but football you should give it up but for the 2 or 3 months that it is played so that you can become a better football player. Herein lies the problem with the basketball and baseball programs. I agree with BC here, let high school kids enjoy their careers in multiple sports because they only get to do it once.

If baseball is his future, then why not concentrate on that your last season? Before everyone jumps on me about how wonderful multisport athletes are, I agree with you. It's great to play more than one sport, but I can't imagine that practicing football in the morning (QB) and then pitching in a game that night is helping his baseball career. That has to be tough on his arm. I would think if the scouts are at the club leagues in the summer, then he is going to want to be at the top of his game. I just don't see how that is possible if you have football practice in the morning.

If you are directing your comment towards me, please reread what I have posted. I never insinuated that kids cannot play two or more sports. :thumb:

I was, I suppose, questioning why in his last year would he not want to concentrate on the sport that is probably going to get him a college scholly. I don't doubt that Isler loves football, but to take the chance of injury in an off season sport your senior year. And also wondering if he can actually pitch to his full potental in a club sport , which someone has pointed out that the college scouts attend, after spending the morning in football practice. Hey more power to him.:ylsuper: It's great that he can do all that.

I vote we get this back to the CCH team's outlook for 08. Its headed the wrong way.

So...

Anyone know who will be filling the big shoes of senior Andy Schulte on the o-line? Also, what is the summer schedule for practice? I hear Will Deters is going to be a top back this year in Northern Kentucky.

That goes without saying.

The bottom line is CCH needs Isler at every practice.

Guru, if Coach Brossart pushed Ice to choose one or the other (summer baseball or football and remember he missed only one practice last year) football would be the loser. Ice loves playing baseball, and he will get a free ride playing it in College one day. Not too many young from CovCath, letter in Football, Basketball and Baseball, and are as good at it, as Ice is!

I agree old guy. But Coach B has a huge advantage this year knowing who his QB is day one. It took him a while last year, but at least he finally made the right choice. Ice is the man. They just need to protect him better. Do you know who the new center is OG?

There are only about 12 scholarships per team in division one baseball to be divided up among about 30 players or so. There is rarely, if ever, a full baseball scholarship. He may get some scholarship money (1/3 of a scholarship), but it will not be a complete "free ride".

There is no reason both the coach and the player can't make some compromises in working with schedules so he can get plenty of qb work as well as play plenty of baseball all summer.

My understanding, and I am almost 100% sure, that D1 schools can not give partial scholarships, in any sport, I know in football D1A school can only give complete scholarships and no partials. D1AA and D2 can give partial scholarships, but D1A can only give complete scholarships.

You are correct when it comes to D1 football and basketball. But baseball is a non revenue sport and they can and have to break up the 12 scholarships available.

Gotcha. I didn't know for sure about baseball. Thanks for the information.

Andy Schulte's spot on the o line will be filled by Kevin Morrison who will be a junior next year.

Does Covington Catholic have a true qb coach? I think the Isler boy would really benefit from one that knew his stuff.

I don't think so. They had one but I think he quit after not getting one of several teaching openings.

Thanks. I think with a strong qb coach Isler can be very strong. He has a few hitches that need tweaking. If those get handled (and maybe they have) he can be very good.
