2008 Covington Catholic

Featured Replies

I understand Clyde and we both agree 2008 is nothing like 2006 for the Colonels.

I don't blame anyone for playing several sports in high school but as a coach I would have a hard time with one of my players playing a club sport instead of attending school practices.

Since Highlands in the measuring stick for CCH, I wonder how many Highlands football players take part in club baseball instead of attending every football practice?

Wow Guru, seems you are trying to make an issue out of something that hasn't even happened. If you knew the kid, don't think you would be questioning his commitment to the football team--if you need to be refreshed watch some of the film from last year. Also find it hard to believe anyone would begrudge a student athlete from developing skills in mulitple sports that could allow them to compete at the next level. I won't comment on this issue again since you all seem to be the experts.

Guru raises an interesting and age-old question and its not limited to the Colonel qb. Check out the Kentucky Colonels baseball schedule. http://www.leaguelineup.com/schedules.asp?cmenuid=6&url=kyc&sid=893360158

There would seem to be a lot of conflicts in June and July for any KY Colonel that plays high school football. I know Beechwood has had to deal with this in the past as well.

If you notice, those games are all in the evening, CovCath Practices early in the morning.

Isler's future is in baseball. I don't blame the kid.

When you have multiple sports teams that are favorites or threats to win the region year in and year out, many athletes are going to play more than one sport. I have no problem with it.

Right on, Isler is a baseball player who also plays football and basketball.

The prolem is, he has not been a football player since November and as we all

hope the baseball team kepts winning ,which has him out till end of June.

Remember also that he has all new offense coachs and throwing a baseball

and football are two different things. If you watched him last year he has a

habit of reverting back to a pitcher.

It doesn't have anything to do with last year. It has to do with missing football because you are playing a club sport.

Without question, the commitment to football is second to the commitment to baseball.

With all that said, Isler should have a good year and I wish him nothing but the best.

He will have a good year . He know on his first day he is the starter

which means he get all the 1st O's snapps during the summer

Gotcha. Thanks.

Isn't the passing league in June at night?

theguru, you know that in baseball, it is during the club season that the scouts come out. I don't why, but that is just the way it is. I don't blame Ice one bit for looking out for his future.

If baseball is his future, then why not concentrate on that your last season? Before everyone jumps on me about how wonderful multisport athletes are, I agree with you. It's great to play more than one sport, but I can't imagine that practicing football in the morning (QB) and then pitching in a game that night is helping his baseball career. That has to be tough on his arm. I would think if the scouts are at the club leagues in the summer, then he is going to want to be at the top of his game. I just don't see how that is possible if you have football practice in the morning.

To be honest, I don't know if he will be practicing football, I'd assume he is.

But I am not sure. I wouldn't disagree with him for playing only club baseball, and I wouldn't disagree with him for playing club baseball and practicing football. However, due to the fact that his future is in baseball, I would disagree with him only playing football as some people have said they believe he should do.

I agree with you. I kinda feel that if he plays both, he is , how do I say it, short changing himself in both sports. I agree that if baseball is his sport , only playing football would not be good.

Isler playing summer baseball and being the apparent starting QB is nothing new for Covington Catholic. Josh Bleser did it successfully in 2006, and prior to that, I believe, Tim Grogan played summer ball and was still a pretty successful QB for the Colonels.

If Zach wants to try both and can be successful at both, more power to him. God forbid we let a High School kid have fun doing what he loves.

It's always great when kids get to do what they love. More power to them. As for Josh Bleser doing it, well, that year Cov. Cath. was loaded across the board which factored in considerably.
