The biggest question for the Black Bears this year will be how all the kids coming from varying systems adapt to Larkey's sytem. Defensively I expect Harlan County to put a quality unit together, they should have solid athletes at the skill positions as well.

 

Unless Belfry, Bell and Pburg has 20 upperclassmen RB's then Harlan County will have the most depth. They return almost 9 kids that had significant numbers last year from all three schools. Each one has something different to offer as well.

Where can you get a schedule for the Black Bears?

The schedule still isn't complete, they are searching for a week 1 opponent to play in their Bowl Game.

Why only three home games?

 

There should be 4 but they are still looking for an opponent for Week 1, the Rax Bowl at home. That should give them 4. With this year not being a contract year and having to play teams from Cawood's schedule it is almost impossible to find teams to travel to much less even play because of how late in the year it has been. Almost every team already has had their schedule filled for the past year or they also need home games and will not travel.

This can't be good though, are kids looking to play defense only and switch positions?

I really have been hearing some great things about the Black Bears the last week or two. I really think the Westfelt kid will have a break out season. He looks to be around 150 or maybe a little bigger. I was told he has a bench over 300 and just as good squat and clean numbers. Also, I was told that Gilliam and the Smith along with Fields can run in the middle to high 4-5. I was told this by several people but we will just have to wait and see. I do know that the 3 can flat out run because they showed it last year. It should be interesting to say the least to see how this bunch comes together. We have a great coach and some great kids and the energy is high in Harlan County for Black Bear Football.

I'm sure there will be plenty of rotation with fresh players coming in at all times that are just as good, there really won't be an A team, B team ,etc.

Remember you have to get a couple QB from that list. Then probably several wideouts could come from that list also, I am guessing. I think they will be plenty of chances to get on the field. I would guess he will try to platoon as much as possible but that would depend on if they have the ability to do that and not lose much from each unit. It will be interesting to see it play out.

I have no Idea. Come to think of it I can't remember watching Rock last year but I do recall them kind of getting away from the three back set over the last few years didn't they? I really don't know!

So far there is no indication of that happening. The kids have all been showing up for combines, weights, etc.

Coach Larkey's offense is based on multiple sets. He doesn't have a specific set he uses an entire game. His offensive philosophy has always been geared around the athletes that he has had to work with. Rockcastle had not been usng the 3 back set as their primary offense since the mid 90's. One play will be in the shotgun and the next could easily be in the L formation.
