More on Global Warming... Major Arctic sea ice melt is expected this summer

So, you are confident that Big Al is right and the factual evidence that the oceans have been cooling and other evidence that contradicts liberal orthodoxy concerning global warming is wrong? The fact that the models predicting global warming have proven to be very inaccurate (away from Al's direction) and now some global warming alarmists are lowering expectations by predicting a short-term global cooling of ten years or more does not raise questions in your mind? Now that is what I call faith!

Why is it that liberals smell conspiracies and price gouging when rich white men make large profits in business ventures but in Gore's case, his pronouncements of global doom are met with adulation as he pockets millions jetting from one venue to another to deliver the same speech? Forgive me for recognizing the irony of liberals' willing suspension of disbelief on the one hand and the willingness to believe only the worst in mankind on the other hand. :D

P. T. Barnum was right when he said that there is a sucker born every minute but the earth's growing population screams for Barnum's model to be updated. Who can fault Barnum for not predicting the effectiveness of modern day snake oil salesmen? It also probably never occurred to him that people would someday pay good money for bottled tap water.

There are two things I always promised myself I would never pay for: bottled water is one; the other I can't mention.

Signs of the Apocalypse. I saw a fellow in Wal-Mart purchasing water with a charge card.

Is there a group that is qualified yet neutral enough (i.e. isn't bankrolled by "the warmers" or "the doubters") whose opinion would be respected by both sides that could legitimately research the issues?

It's not like folks here on BGP are swaying too many opinions from one side to the other. Some (and we all know who you are) assume that anything coming from PBS, the NY Times, The Phoenix Group, the Economic Policy Institute is mindless drivel. Some (and we all know who we are) are pretty sure that FoxNews, the Wall Street Journal and the Heritage Foundation promulgate mindless drivel themselves.

Just curious. Even if such a study was undertaken by a completely unbiased entity, the results would in all probability be discounted by whichever side wasn't happy with the results.

That's true. For me, I really don't undermine the publisher because I normally go and research the actual scientist that is mentioned to try and find out who is backing them.

One thing that makes me lean towards the idea that it is not as man-made and/or imminent as Gore would like us to believe is when he claims that "there is no debate in the scientific community" when I can make a search on google and easily find quotes from guys like Richard S. Lindzen (head CLIMATOLOGIST at arguably our country's finest college, MIT) saying the opposite.

Another thing that I have read is that a lot of Gore's predictive models were filled with inaccurate and half-true data, which a lot of scientists are discovering. Coupled with the fact that now ocean cooling is going to put it on halt, it makes me wonder how accurate Gore's claims are.

Thery're not. Follow the money.

Al Gore is playing three card monty and making millions doing it.

Conservative environmental devastatators wouldn't believe man-made global warming if Jesus descended from heaven and said it was so.

And most Republican conservative fools who do believe that there is factual evidence of warming just don't care. Their attitude is- I won't be here that long, so let a future generation worry about it.

Are they fools for being Republican Conservatives or because they believe the "factual" evidence of warming?

What makes one persons evidence "factual" and others not? How can you discredit one scientist but say that another is being truthful? I don't understand how anyone here knows which is right and which is wrong...

I can't say which side is right, I can only form an opinion on the evidence available. That said, my post was not addressing what evidence is factual but more so with the reason the mathemagician made the fool comment.

Jesus would never make it down here. He would be burned to a crisp by a hole in the ozone in the upper atmosphere, and even if he did make it he would be warshed away by the tsunami headed our way from the melting of Greenland.

 I don't care who you are, that's funny!

All I could think of was:

"Are you saying Jesus can't hit a curve ball!??"

"Are you saying Jesus can't visit our planet??!!" :D:D

I'm not saying the article I posted is 100% factual. I have no clue whether it is or not. But ice in the arctic isn't supposed to just melt away in the summer and re-freeze in the winter. I don't believe they have the same seasonal patterns in the arctic as we do here in Kentucky.

Typically, ice in the Arctic Ocean melts during the summer and refreezes over the winter. It's not a new phenomenon.
