Final

This was a great tournament for Paintsville. I had the opportunity to do all tournament games for WSIP and was amazed at the pitching and defense displayed by the Tigers.

 

Paintsville dominated Murray behind the arm of Shane Grimm. A lineup change seemed to spark the Tigers' bats.

 

Austin Lyons worked a masterpiece against the third-ranked Knights of Lexington Christian. The sophomore threw a complete, allowing only one run. Patrick Butcher keyed a three-run surge by the Tigers with a two-run double off the top of the wall in left center.

 

Seth Alex Rice went to the mound in the finale against the Aces of Owensboro Catholic. Rice, another sophomore for the tigers matched the poise of Lyons, going 5.1 innings while giving up three runs. Travis Ison went the rest of the way, holding the Aces scoreless.

 

This was the first appearance in a state baseball final since the Tigers won the championship in 1990. Current Paintsville head coach Tucker Howard was a member of that State Championship team.

Congrats to the Tigers on a good run at the all A. We certainly hope to see more of that mound presence this summer from Shane and Austin.

Congrats to OC and Paintsville. Lyons and Grimm are two great kids. :thumb:

I know its picky, but one side note. LCA is the Eagles. Lexington Catholic has the Knights.

Ha, not a big deal. I happened to be looking for a specific thread on Lex Cath and saw this one on the search engine and just happened to see the mistake. Just pointed it out. Now if you messed up Lex Cath and say Boyle Co. (an old football archenemy of mine) or perhaps Dunbar (district I lived in and least favorite Lexington Public school) I might have had to come down hard.
