No. Zyrtec is over-the-counter now.

 

I've never had allergy problems in the past. This year it's been awful. No headaches sniffles or itchy eyes. Just a constant stream of mucus running between my nose and my throat. It felt like I had rubber bands caught back there. And I had a guaranteed sore throat every day around 4 or 5 pm.

 

A couple days on the Zyrtec really helped.

And i've always had bad allergies but they had really been pretty good this year up until last week, when I started getting itchy eyes, runny nose, and sneezing all day long. It's finally starting to calm down a bit but it was killing me last week.

I know Wal-Mart has a less expensive generic option of it too. I'm sure other places will have a generic as well.

I do not have as bad of problems than some have descibed on here or that cvillcat has. I used to never be bothered by any of it until I hit around age 30, from then on it has gotten a little more of a problem.

 

As a lot of ones on here already know, cville and I are good friends. I have personally witnessed his eyes swelling shut from the allergies.

One story that we both remember and tell and this has happened more than once was when we were out fishing one time and cville's eyes were swelling shut, his face swollen and was in obvious misery. I told him that I would get the stuff, ready and we would get off the lake and get him out of there and back home. His reply came quick......"Are you crazy, we are catching fish! I'm staying, start casting" :lol:. From then on our standing question and joke has been "are your eye swelling shut ?", O.K. then, time to go fishin".

Of all the medical problems I have had I would rate the allergies right there at the top and feel sorry for anyone who suffers with them.

Late-summer/early fall is my worst time, with the ragweed being my chief enemy. But my spring allergies started getting to me pretty bad over the past weekend.

Until THIS YEAR, September has been the worst time of year for me. Ragweed, ironweed, etc. For some reason, these past few weeks I've been absolutely miserable; much worse than the usual September allergies.

It definitely seems to be a different batch of allergens than what I'm used to from SEKy. Still, it'll never be as bad as the hell I had growing up on the river. I was lucky to get 50 good days out of the year back then.

Ole great-great grandmother medicine for sore throat, itchy eyes and the run of the nose?

 

1. Remove third claw of dead crow

2. Put in poke ( brown paper bag)

3. add 1 railroad rock

4. add 2 teaspoons of rock salt

5. add 1 cup of cooking oil

6. add 1 ounce of yellow root

7. add a handfull of horse clover

8. and finally three red worms ( night crawlers or others do not work)

 

shake bag for several minutes

tie up in tree for direct sunlight for 6 hours

submerge entire poke under water

 

finally squeeze the bag tight and let fluid from bag drain in pan.

place feet in pan for three minutes 2x a day for 3 days

My son suffers terribly from fall allergies and his nose bleeds horribly when campfire season starts. We tried everything we know and finally tried the nasal spray, veramist. It has worked wonders and he uses it daily WITHOUT BEING TOLD. (LOL, quite an accomplishment for a 12 yr. old). I recommend it highly. There is a coupon for a free bottle at veramist.com. It is prescription meds so you have to get the RX from a dr. and take it along with the coupon to the pharmacy. Otherwise it is quite expensive.
