April 10, 200818 yr Do you think that Coach Summitt is as good or better than Coach Wooden? I think that she ranks right up there with him.
April 10, 200818 yr It's hard to compare. They are coaching in different times. The game is much more faster and better athletes. I think Summitt is as good or not better than most men coaches.
April 10, 200818 yr She's is an outstanding coach. Few coaches have been as dominant as Pat in any sport. Men's or women's.

And yet hasn't Wooden said that he prefers women's basketaball because it more clearly resembles the game he coached?
April 10, 200818 yr Author I think although she coaches womens basketball she is probably one of the best Coaches to ever coach basketball period.
April 10, 200818 yr Some will argue that coaching women's basketball is coaching basketball in its purest form. So if that is the case then she really knows how to coach basketball. They have to do everything fundamentally sound.
April 10, 200818 yr And yet hasn't Wooden said that he prefers women's basketaball because it more clearly resembles the game he coached? Not sure he isn't someone that I keep up. Not sure but I enjoy watching the college game and there are some girls that are better than some men.
April 10, 200818 yr I for one thinks she stands side by side with Wooden. I actually think her coaching career is more impressive.
April 10, 200818 yr Like comparing college football to NFL IMO. Not saying one is better than the other, but they are just completely different.
April 11, 200818 yr One of the things you have to also look at is the quality of commitment to programs at the beginning. Coach Wooden at UCLA was in men's basketball who was going to have the resources to be successful. When Coach Summit started out, she was not provided resources near what the men's programs got. Remember, she could be at UK as the women's coach if UK would have paid her moving expenses. What would that have been, maybe $1,000? And they balked. At the time Joe B. Hall was the coach they balked at probably $1,000 for moving expenses of the girls' coach. So, the road for her teams to have the success they have was filled with many more obstacles than Coach Wooden's.

That is one heck of a missed opportunity.
April 11, 200818 yr Wow...never knew she could have been at UK. Talk about woulda, coulda, shoulda. That is one heck of a missed opportunity. It came out in a HL story a few years back when her and Mickie DeMoss coached against each other for the first time. Imagine her in Women's basketball. Rupp in Men's Basketball And Bear Bryant in football. All could have been at UK.
April 11, 200818 yr Not sure how accurate it is, but it seems like I heard the other day that she has made something like 27 straight Sweet 16's.
