They have some incredible areas for younger kids and also have some wild "he-man" rides that can be ridden while the wife (maybe I should just say "spouse") is watching both the kids. They aren't old enough to appreciate this now, but the Dixie Stampede is a fun family place.

April 6, 200818 yr I would love your input...we are going to Myrtle beach in May, we are taking our kids (ages 3 and 19 months). We have never been to the beach as a family and I was wondering what all in that area there is to do that is family friendly, or for us to do when we get a night out. We are staying at a resort that has a lot for us to do and the for the kids, but it is nice to go outside the resort. Also the kids have never traveled this long in a car, we have DVD players, snacks, toys etc, but any suggestion on keeping them happy for 11+ hours in the car :lol: Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am heading soon to by all the fun stuff needed for the trip. I am getting so excited but I am a early preparer, so I am starting now. Oh one more thing....both of our kids get car sick....it's awful, please if you have any remedies or ideas on that..PLEASE let me know lol If you can, drive through the night. It's the best way to travel with little ones. They'll likely sleep most of the way. BTW, did you guys ever get that mess taken care of?
April 6, 200818 yr I think the best advice I've seen is to rent a beach umbrella and couple of chairs for the week. It will greatly increase the amount of beach time you can spend early in the day. Morning into the early afternoon is easily the best time to be on the beach at Myrtle in my experience. High tide starts to roll in around two and is usually pretty rough, and it gets really windy as well. Not sure which resort you're at, but that'll be a good time to take advantage of those ammenities. Broadway on the Boardwalk is very crowded, but pretty family friendly in the late afternoon into the early evening. I wouldn't dine on site though, it's pretty expensive even by Myrtle Beach standards. One thing to keep in mind, if you are going in May, the beach will be less crowded but the weather could be cooler than you may think. You may want to pack and plan accordingly.
April 6, 200818 yr Hellllo! Dick's Last Resort! Not with kids . My cousins took my parents and me there about 5 or 6 years ago and it was the funniest thing I've ever seen.

It dosen't matter if you have kids they just tone it down. We go every year and my daughter loves it and she is just nine. You do need to know that they are being rude on purpose that is the fun of it. I have been with people that we didn't inform of the atmosphere and they were ready to choke to waitress. The info about the umbrella and beach chairs was good. They are kind of expensive but well worth it if you have little ones.

There are a couple of Water Parks, I can't remember the names of them right now but the kids would have a great time playing there. Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing (both have shopping and good restaraunts along with places to rest with the kids) As another has posted, one place to eat is a drive Murrels Inlet and a dinner at Drunken Jacks, there is always a wait but if you go early for dinner the wait is not as bad. This restaraunt sets beside and over the inlet with some very good views. If you like seafood this place is a must, is always the best meal that my wife and myself have on our trip.:thumb: A theme Restaraunt that my wife and I always enjoyed at Broadway at the Beach is "Johnny Rockets", this is a oldies (50's) style theme place with great food (hamburgers, bbq, onion rings, fries, shakes and the like) The shakes are amazing. hey have the "dancing waiters" that every so often they beak out in a dance to an "oldies" song. "Fudruckers" is another "hamburger joint" that is pretty good. "T-Bonz" is a very good steakhouse, one of my favorites and it is at Broadway at the Beach and at Barefoot Landing as well The "Dixie Stampede" is a dinner/show that we like. The "Carolina Opry" and "Medevil times" are also good shows. Also, as another has already posted .....beach umbrellas are a very good idea for the kids, the sun on the beach can get very strong and absolutely load up on the sunscreen. I know that you will find many things to do with the children and enjoy your trip. One other thing is I saw a name of a restaraunt named earlier and I will give you some imput/opinion on it......Stay away from "Dicks Last Resort", with or without kids this place is a dump! My wife and I made the big mistake of eating there once and was the worst meal that I believe that I have ever "tried" to eat. This place is popular I guess for the younger high school and college crowd and definately not for young children. Their theme is insulting everyone (I am serious), I personally could live and have some fun with slinging the insults back and forth with the waiter's/waitress's but the food was pathetic. My final review of Dicks Last Resort...........the place is a sewage plant, stay away. :lol:

Yes we did get that mess cleaned up...Thanks to "Spot Shot" that stuff is amazing and worked wonders on some hidden spots as well. April 6, 200818 yr Our kids were a little older the first time we took them to the beach. We went to Wild Dunes SC. Everyday I had something planned to visit and do. As it turned out, all the kids wanted to do was play on the beach. Turns out all the adults wanted to do was relax on the beach. Great vacation was had by all. We limited the dinning out to carry in.
April 7, 200818 yr If you are a fish fan, Do yourself a favor and find a little out of the way fish place called Mrs. Fish, It is unbelievable, There will be no tourists, mainly locals are all that know about it. The owner of the Freaky Tiki night club took me there. The seared tuna is unreal.

April 7, 200818 yr The Pavilion is no longer in existence (last year or the year before was their last season). Definitely drive through the night ... the kids won't wake up at all.
